I’m planning a similar job JMC

I have pulley squeal so will be stripping things down to swap all pulleys, tensioners and belts. While there I’m also swapping the ac compressor as I have the frustrating delayed ac start, and may as well strip the oil cooler to replace gaskets and o-rings too. Including the ones at the back of the engine!

Cleaning the gunk from the inlet manifold is also planned, and may as well replace those inlet pipes too… especially at that price! Plus a general degrease and clean on the engine…

Let us know how you get on with this job! Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Past rides:
2014 Audi Q7 3.0d (good riddance)
2010 L322 Autobiography 5.0 Supercharged
2011 L320 HSE 3.0 sdv6
2014 Jaguar XF-RS 5.0 supercharged
2007 BMW 535D
2005 Mini Cooper S

It's been a constant stream of delivery couriers for about a week now. Just wanted to make sure that I had everything needed for the job, including contingencies.

Thus far, my garage floor looks much more like a gathering of Christmas presents than my lounge (which doesn't - Ba Humbug!). Here's my list of new bits and pieces in preparation of the job:

Draper 100x50 cm 25ltr drip tray
5ltr Engine degreaser
Pump spray bottle for above
Draper 1/4" Torque Wrench up to 25Nm
Sealy oil syringe tube
2 pairs of oil cooler gaskets (upper and lower # LR077242 & LR022903) just in case I slpit one by mistake, or just to keep for the next time!
Pack of 10 Victon BS611 O-Rings (2 for the notorious oil feed pipe)
Pack of 10 Victon 18x2.5mm O-Rings (1 for the radiator coolant pipe to oil cooler connection which comes off during the removal of the cooler)
1 Radiator top hose union (# LR029140) because this is a very brittle part and they regularly break when being removed.
1mtr length of 70mm ID silicon hose to cut to length and replace the four inlet manifold rubber joining tubes which are notorious for failing.
I already have all the service kit of genuine LR filters and oil, just in case I need to do an oil service after changing everything, but hope I won't need to as it was done recently.

Delivery arrived from Rob at Duckworths today and it's worth noting that the oil cooler gaskets have new part numbers, signifying an update / change to the original parts.

New part numbers are LR113003 & LR113004.

i did mine and changed the cooler too after a chat with my local LR specialist said that 1 in 2 come back 6 months later for the same reason. they now will not do the job unless a new cooler is fitted. I think another member had my old cooler.

they stated that they have a habit of warping.

I used a Nissen part from Advanced Factors 9 months on all good Thumbs Up 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Just want to add a +1 to this…

I took it off as I am replacing pulleys and I must have just looked at it wrong as it broke that easily! Censored Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Just an update on this after the best part of a month and a thousand miles from doing the job on New Years Day.

Car - PERFECT! Razz
Oil level - Constant
Coolant - Clean and level
Driveway - no oil spots

RESULT!!

I must have spent the best part of £800 on parts, tools and consumables, but in the end the job was completed with just two gaskets and two o-rings costing less than £50. Whistle The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Brilliant, sounds like it's sorted Very Happy

I was unlucky when I did my gaskets last March, despite being very careful something warped or cracked in the cooler, oil appeared in the header tank, had to strip it all down again the following weekend to fit a new cooler.
It's quicker the second time tho LOL.
Bought the new cooler from site sponsor Advanced Factors, best price from a trusted supplier - many cheaper ones on flea bay - wanted a decent part for my baby.

Oh and the top radiator hose, mine fell off just looking at it, wow so brittle. you can buy a brass threaded hose adapter, I drilled out the housing slightly small, used the tapered threads on the fitting to make/cut the thread in the plastic - but didn't go quite all the way, smothered threads with araldite then screwed it in all the way. Had to shorten the original hose by a few mm, pushed it onto the fitting and secured with 2 tiny hose clamps.
So far it's been a perfect repair, cost less than £3 compared to £80 for the LR part
I got the idea of looking for a threaded fitting when I read someone had used an F type coax fitting. Anything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough (and have deep pockets|)

Took the sump guard off today to check for any signs of leaks etc. After 18 months and 15,000 miles from doing the oil cooler gaskets, I'm happy to say it's still a clean bill of health. Mr. Green

Good stuff!
Coolers can warp so best to replace it I’ve been told and not just the gaskets 👍 Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I had a minor leak and my local indy diagnosed an oil cooler leak. 2012 MY.

Got the whole unit changed (OEM) and my 3 month warranty which came with the car paid some of the cost (they wanted to use an aftermarket cooler, not OEM). They also do not pay for the new oil.

I insisted on the OEM.

Why they were at it they also changed the fuel sender unit which was throwing up inaccurate fuel levels.

Warranty company paid just over £1000 on my behalf.
