Thanks. Stan,
Alistair,
A major consideration before you buy anything must be how long you intend to keep your L405.
The big advantage this type of add on has , you can move it across if you ever trade up to a newer model, whereas the £500 update would be permanently fixed and hence lost .

Yep - another part of my dilemma. I have a track record of upgrading stuff just before selling the car....

Just a tip for anyone who buys this kit.
You need to buy a C type to lightening cable to get Apple CarPlay with your iPhone.,

Mike.

N.B.
This may only apply to genuine Intellidash units.
Others on eBay May use the standard USB lightening charging cable. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

My son is starting to have a bit of "buyers remorse" spoke to him on the phone this morning and he reckons the display is lower resolution than standard, that a couple of lines are missing at the top (time in particular) and one of his speakers is crackling, I will inspect over Christmas and report back. Even though I will lose Dual View (I never use it) I'm leaning towards the more expensive option (complete Android Head unit) - but I think I'll just wait.

I'm not talking about the system Stan has but the 500 quids worth from Unique Audio Developments. Geoff

Replacing the head unit completely, I think there may be a couple of options. As I say no rush this is likely to be a project for next year. Geoff

I had the whole head unit in mine replaced with an android system. It is night and day better than the factory unit and the only thing lost is the dual view. Expensive- yes but as I drive a lot of miles and I will be keeping this car for a while it was worth it for me. 2019 Autobiography SDV8 Byron blue/black - current

We have fitted several of the screen replacement ACP systems... And yes your right they are a great system if a little pricey?

I like the second cheaper option, the £500 one. As I always use Waze on my phone I get fed up of squinting at the phone screen. I assume (daft question incoming) that with this unit then I could finally hear the waze directions as I can't at present.

Isn't this a better solution? At least the source is trustworthy: https://www.carlinkitfactory.com/product/c...nt-system/

Same Intellidash unit fitted in my 2011 L322.

Waze and Apple Maps and Google maps all work perfectly and the 7 inch screen is crystal clear even in bright sunlight.
I get the sound via the Aux input socket, so control volume by the usual rotary knob.
Very pleased with it.
Just be aware that I got charged import duty from the USA, but it arrived within 5 days of order.
