Where is my ripping mediaplayer?

I had different problems with this infotainment system throughout the JLR range.

In the F-Type, some penny pincer decided to use a smaller size of SSD to save,
ended up needing the full size for the maps and firmware, hence no mediaplayer.

The F-Pace had a CD-player, ripped from it and also from the USB, victory !

The D5 did not have CD-player, but did allow USB to load music to the mediaplayer.

Now this 'top-of-the- Range' , RR Autobiography with the most expensive audio system
(a € 5700 option for the buyer), has no CD-player. That doesn't really bother me.
But is also doesn't give me the option to load music from the USB to the mediaplayer.. Confused

But when I go to settings / functions / media / mediaplayer, I can set how the mediaplayer
selects songs and stuff..

If I go to media in the lower screen, I can see 12 tiles, of which one is the radio and one
is the USB.. .. and 10 grey squares.. Shocked

Dealer after sales guy doesn't have a clue... Embarassed

I have all my music on my phone - which is paired with the car & works fine.

My wife phone is also paired and when she gets bored of my music, swaps it over to hers.

It was the same issue when they discontinued the record player.

Hi RRV8SC,

Thanks for the info, but the problem is not the lack of a CD-player. Actually to try to rip one
in my F-Pace last year, was the first time in ten years I got one from a pile in the cupboard.

The response from Alistair has merit, but I don't always take my phone with me.

But the article you send the link from was good fun reading,

Thanks,

With mine I can only see it on the main screen & not on the drivers display, which just says 'Bluetooth'

I'm not sure that I understand your problem, but be aware that only the 2 USB slots in the central cubby can be used for media and I have used sticks up to 256GB without any problem. You can see even movies from them (while stopped, of course) and although clunky, the menu shows all the ripped mp3 files, flac or mp4's in different configurable ways. It is true that, since CarPlay, I never used the USB drive, it's much more convenient to stream from the phone...
The main central screen allows various configurations of media display/sound while the lower one just has basic functions. The title of the song playing is also displayed on the instrument panel, if desired.

@Adara

Thanks for your reply. According to the manual its possible to 'rip' CD's to the media center;
the on-board SSD. If that works (I discovered with other JLR products), also the USB can
by 'ripped' (=copied) to the SSD.

My car appear not to be able to do any of these, based on the configuration : no cd-player.

So can anybody with a CD-player give it a try ? I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black

The multimedia system has been changed in 2017, I believe, it's practically an Intel Atom micro PC with a 60GB SSD... "It's an Intel Quad Core 1.9 GHz Atom E3845 SOC with 4GB of RAM and a 60GB SSD. If Rear Seat Entertainment is specified, a 160GB SSD is used. With the 60GB drive, 10GB is configured for user media, the 160GB drive increases that to 110GB of user media storage". The maps occupy ~ 35GB.

From the ICTP FAQ: Can I rip CDs to Touch Pro’s media library? Yes, the on-board Gracenote database matches the track information as well as album and artist artwork. Once you insert the CD, an icon will appear next to the playback controls allowing you to rip it.

Of course, not having a CD player, I cannot test this function. There is no rip from USB option either. But, at least for me, it would be pointless anyway, even a 512GB USB stick is now ~ 65€... Also, CarPlay, etc.
