I know most lads never get too hear this but it's better too have too much then too little

Think of trolley jacks and axle stands like a car engine

You wouldn't use an engine at it's maximum level every where you go, you use only 30% of it's ability so why would you make a jack and axle stand support the extra weight all the time

So following the suggestions from people, I am favouring this jack and stands combo…

3 tonne jack and 2 x 4 tonne ratchet axle stands.

I believe the 4 tonne stands are enough, (although there are heavier tonnage ones available) but do shout if you think 4T isn’t enough…

Hi All,

So an update for anyone who comes across this thread if looking for jack options…

I purchased the above jack and axle stand set from SGS, and while I cannot fault the quality of the jack or stands… they are not high reach enough for an L322. Jacking up at the usual jacking points doesn’t get the wheels completely off the ground and I’ve had to use wooden blocks to give me that extra reach - but even then I am near the upper limit of the jack.

My recommendation would be to stick with the SGS brand (I really cannot fault them otherwise) but check for the height they go.

At some point I’ll look to upgrade them to the higher reach, and 6T axle stand set. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Past rides:
2014 Audi Q7 3.0d (good riddance)
2010 L322 Autobiography 5.0 Supercharged
2011 L320 HSE 3.0 sdv6
2014 Jaguar XF-RS 5.0 supercharged

Jack options

There is another write up on the forum which covers the Mercedes Sprinter van bottle Jack. It also covers the use of a machined alloy part made to fit the jacking points of the L322. I bought these and recommend them. My drive is not exactly fat and a trolley Jack works but will move around! Many people here have gone this route.
