Towing setup?

So guys, quick one as I am confused about the types of towing setups available.

I decoded my VIN online and I see my L322 has the following:

Towing Equipment - Towing Prep ROW [028BR]

Now, I don't have a picture, but recall seeing some kind of square receiver on the back of car one day, something that may have looked a little like this, though not 100%

I've read a lot about the Westfalia quick release. While i'm not 100% on what I have, I don't think the westfalia would fit.

I guess, i'm wondering what my options are for a tow bar?

I checked the cubby on the opposite side of radio/electrics and it didn't have the hitch in it Sad

Thanks a lot

The swan-neck part of the Westfalia tow-bar wouldn't fit direct, there is a receiver which does attach to what your pic appears to be;

Edit: I believe towing prep in the build-sheet relates to it being ready for / having the tow-electrics, rather than having a tow-bar or fitting for a tow-bar. 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

Ok,

So continuing my research, I just happened on this image... it looks like the westfalia kit has 2 parts, one "receiver" that plugs into the factory square receiver, which will then receive the Westfalia kit..

So it looks like I need to buy both the following items then.. are these easy come buy on the used market and if so, at what general cost?

Not sure I fancy being the owner of a Range Rover that doesn't have towing ability lol..

Cheers

That's correct...... I'd have a look through the For Sale & Wanted page here, you might hit lucky but if not will at least be able to gauge the normal price. There's usually a few on ebay but often seem expensive.

The black polystyrene moulding fits in the under-floor cubby hole on the right side, to store the swan-neck when not fitted.

Ditto. One of the things on my wanted spec list is a tow-bar, if I buy a vehicle without then I'll be fitting one, for the same reason.... the phrase "It's not how often you need something it's how much you do, when you do" comes to mind. If your car has a standard rear bumper you'll have a towing eye accessible. My old L322 pulled many a vehicle back out of the desert with that towing eye........ Pajeros, numerous Hummers, a Cherokee on a semi-regular basis, it's just no good for a trailer though! 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

Ok, thanks guys..

So, I found this in photos, while looking to check something else out.

Looks like I am half way there, just need to find myself the swan neck piece now.

I reckon it's about 100 or so for the swan neck on it's own.. not toooo bad.

You need the armature shown in your first post. The piece showing in your last photo (the ring) is part of an original fitting which, although will be marked “Westfalia”, is NOT part of a towbar and needs to be removed and replaced by the aforementioned armature,

You need to check underneath to see if you have the armature. If it has never had a towbar then I doubt it. John

Blowing that photo up gives the impression you have a Westphalia unit with the socket for the swan neck. Have a good look under there, the West. bar should have a label on the right as you look at it.

AND Cam Tech Craig says he may have a swan neck or two on the shelf.

for reference search on PF Jones website. the armature is no longer made, but I understand the swan neck and farmers hitch are still available. Probably as they eventually may need replacong.

HTH

oh and the swan neck shows as £300. Shocked Consideer a farmers hitch at £170. Cheers

If that silver car in the photo is yours, then as you have half the unit fitted, it's possible the other half is in the boot....

Open the boot & there is a cubby compartment under the floor on the right - where there is a side indent. The rest of the tow bar is usually in there.

Thanks guys,

Yes for the last photo, I was referring to the Westfalia receiver as opposed to the towing eye.

While the price of these is kind of eye watering, I don't plan on spending RRP on new, I would really like the detachable swan neck.

I had checked the cubby and there is no swan neck to be found, which is a bit of shame really.

If looking on Ebay and Gumtree you need swan neck part no.323 039 (it is hard stamped / cast into the side of teh swan neck. Just confirm this with seller as many look the same. Thumbs Up
