if you arnt getting good service from the dealer at this stage , i would consider going somewhere else..the FFRR is normally ok electrically and mechanically but it does have problems and i can see this dealer strugging you off with loads of excuses...

an hse is ok but it depends on what options were fitted at factory, a vogue comes with standard 'toys'..

a good read on this forum will enlighten you no end with info you need to make a better judgement on what you buy.. ... - .- -.

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black

The car isn't for sale at a Land Rover dealership which is why I guess they are a bit unsure. I wouldn't be using them other than to buy the car if its the right deal. The screen is definitely there, so its not been removed because its broken.

Part of my problem is that as this is my first RR I'm still hazy about the difference in spec is between a standard HSE and Vogue. If its sat nav only, and this car looks clean and the price reflects the lower spec, then I could live with that. If on the other hand the Vogue came with load more then I need to check if this car had those options specced. Problem is, I don't know what options to check for!

BTW guys, I really appreciate the help. Lloyd Barnes

HSE vs Vogue Spec

thanks for all the help guys, I've had a good root around and I get the picture. Either its been specced up/the price is much lower than a Vogue or move on.

Found this which details all the specs for the various models. not entirely sure of the year but must be facelift as lists only TDV8/ S/C. Thought it might be useful to link it to here.

Yes there was a TDV8 HSE, I had one until recently.

Main differences to a Vogue are
No Sunroof
No Navigation (can be retro-fitted)
No VentureCam (can be retro-fitted but why bother??)
Badges on the boot.
Possibly heated seats in the rear. HSE has heated fronts only but the wiring is present for rears, just no heating elements or switches.

Other than that you'd never know. HSE even had factory bluetooth in mine - says "Phone Not Fitted" when it's not bluetoothed to a phone though so is misleading. Reversing camera was also standard on HSE as well.

The biggest giveaway is the sunroof. Badges can be changed but a factory sunroof can't be retro-fitted.

The HSE also has the Harmon Kardon base spec audio where a lot of Vogues had the Logic-7 upgrade (if you can call it an 'upgrade' - the only premium bit is the price)

Vogue SE (what I have now) adds heated and cooled front seats, active cornering headlamps and a couple of other bits which are neither use nor ornament, oh 'cept the rear seat entertainment which keeps the kids quiet.

Dom

Oh, and welcome BTW Thumbs Up

EDIT:
Just thought of a couple more bits.
HSE had no heated steering wheel - same button turns on air-con recirc mode.
It does have
Auto headlamps
Auto rain sensing wipers
headlamp wash wipe
Bi-Xenon headlamps (07 on)
Brembo front brakes (all TDV8's)
Aux input to stereo

Despite being the lead-in model, the HSE FFRR is a very nice place to be Wink

Hi all, thanks for the advice, I went and had a look at the car and to be honest it looked well used for such a low mileage car. Didn't look like it had been cared for at all.

Dom, your spec list above was almost 100% spot on to the car I looked at. Only place it differed was headlights Xenon on dipped only, also different front seats to Vogue ones I've seen. No heated rears as you say.

The search continues! Gotta be worse tasks in life than hunting down your first FFRR tho!! Smile Lloyd Barnes

Lloyd, when you say well used, do you mean it's just got tired looking paint etc? Or is it covered in battle scars? Reason being you could get a tired looking motor seen to by a Detailer and it will improve vastly. Better to find one which is mechanically sound and see to the cosmetics than find one (as I did) which looked great but was a mechanical nightmare. Concentrate on FSH with all MOT's and get a friendly dealer to see if it's had all recalls done and also see if it's had a shed load of warranty claims. Paint and leather can be sorted much more easily than knackered mechanicals.

BTW, those Xenons have shutters which operate from the dipswitch. All 07 on had bi-xenons. The halogen main beam is only there for looks, the grunt of the light comes from the HID unit. You should see the bendy ones Very Happy Cool as ****. Cool

Hi Dom,

the paint was fine, it was the interior which looked surprisingly tatty for such a low mileage car. Whoever had owned it seemed not to have cared for it, which didn't seem to bode well for how it could have been treated in general.

However point taken about the mechanical versus aesthetics, I'll bear that in mind when looking at the next one. Lloyd Barnes

United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zermatt Silver

Hi All,

Been lurking in the sidelines for almost 6 months, thought it about time i registered and came into the fold.

Not a day has gone by where i have not popped in for a look, the amount of knowledge out there i unbelivable, looking forward to the day someone asks a question and i can answer it......probally a long wait though!!!.

Anyway back to the cars, i have a 2002 l332 vogue which i bought as stolen recovered about 18 months ago, unfortunatley the engine was knackered ( long long story ), had to do major works to it myself after local garage had it for 3 months trying to get the replacement engine working....hence i know the m62 engine inside out.

I also have a 2004 TD6, which i bought as a damaged repairable about the same time and have done loads of body work on it as it had been on it's side.......it also had a knackered engine (piston through the block)......how bloody unlucky was that?????, this engine was also replaced by the same garage, however without any major problems.

My name is Bob, i live in wallsend and am a heating engineer, i also do some diagnostics as i have bought a launch x432 for my own vehicles.

New Zealand 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

Hi all,

Newie intro and moving from casual observer to serious potential buyer, so jumped in to the ring Smile

Have about £25-27k to spend, which I'm expecting to get an '07 TDV8 or SC. Dont' do big miles (5-8k PA) so leaning towards the SC. Open to buying a medium mileage (50-80k) car, but as ever condition is the determining factor. Happy and competent to do basic maintenance (other car is a Porsche 928, which has it's fair share of minor electrical issues, but I maintain that myself, up to and including all servicing, rebuilding suspension etc) and going into this venture with eyes open. That's not to say I want problems, very much expecting the car to be reliable for our daily needs.

I've been trawling though the forum building up general knowledge, but have a few questions:

- Pre purchase inspection checklists, any suggestions?
- Warranties: If buying privately, can a LR warranty be transferred? If buying through indie dealer, what are the best aftermarket warranties?
- How to approach a test drive, check and test all the gadgets?
- What else do I need to know?

Let the fun begin!
