United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Mariana Black
2010 rear ski hatch

Hi all

I hope someone can help - I wanted to carry something that wouldn’t quite fit in the boot the other day and thought all would be fine as I can pass it through the ski hatch - only to find I don’t have one..! Big Cry

I pull down the rear centre arm rear to find the Velcro attached leather pull down flap. Pulled it down to find a solid section rather than a hatch door.

Is it possible to retro fit a hatch or is it not possible/too expensive to do?

Thanks all Ash

I too noticed that on mine. Had one on my 2003 TD6…. It was a BMW thing back in the day. Even had one on the M5’s I had.

I guess you could cut a panel out from an earlier car? But would have to hack yours about.

Not sure if it was an option.

Thanks MJ

I’m sure it must be an option or why would I have the pull down flap of leather? It serves no other purpose that I can see - I could just cut the plastic ‘panel’ out from that section as it would still be covers by the flap of leather or the armrest (it’s up most of the time anyway) Ash

Can’t see it in the options. Think they just expect skis to go on the roof bars….

Typical - I don’t even want it for skis..!

Guns also need room so I might see if the plastic centre section would be easy to remove 😉 Ash

I think you could get a Land Rover gun cabinet at one point, that bolted to the floor.

I can but they are quite expensive.

I don't need anything secure to store overnight or left unattended - We drive to various stands on the shoots and I end up with 2 other folks with guns etc in the back - would have been good to put them easily in the back of the car with all the other stuff.

Will take a look this weekend to see what options I have to modify the section a little

Thanks Ash

You can't really just cut a hole unless you want it permanently open. With the ski hatch, there's a hinged door that opens into the boot section - so you have to go behind the leather flap in the arm rest & then push the door open into the boot - it is hinged at the bottom.

If you have one you will clearly see the door from the boot side.

Yeah - my post started as "can I upgrade to the ski hatch as mine doesn't have the actual hatch"

If I'm bold, I might cut the centre section on the solid panel out and fit a hinge and latching mechanism.

First world problems right... Thumbs Up Ash

Unvelcroing leather reveals button above flap (looking from rear), pressing this allows flap to hinge down from bottom allowing access to elephant's condom😀. First time in 8 1/2 years of ownership that I have opened up the ski hatch. Looks a bit OTT. Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)

What about getting an early rear seat from a breakers and seeing if you can move the back panel to your car?

Thanks appj62

Thats perfect - its the whole section of seat back thats needed.

MJ - exactly what I am now thinking - its the 60 (of the 60/40 split) rear seat back that I need - probably better froma breakers.

Thank you both very much for that - has set me off on my next mission Rolling with laughter Ash
