Anyone on here into welding. Looking at buying myself another welder after the shebeast stole my one as I need too weld the trailer up.

See this online so wanted too see what people's thoughts are. Look too spend around £250 so if you know of anything better throw it out there

You'd get that something like just using jacks, timber and a big hammer, it just needs something heavy parking on it to counteract the lift.

Galv is horrible to weld, you'd have to grind it all back to fresh steel before welding then asthetically it will stand out afterwards probably more than a couple of ripples from attempting to straighten it out using brute force. Current

Unfortunately at the back of the damage its split open so it will need welding regardless so figured best way would be too get some fresh steel and weld a new piece straight in.

I'd like too get a welder as I wanna start practising. A few of the workshop mechanics mess around when we don't break the vehicles. Thought doing something like this might be pretty cool

Looking at the trailer pics, I would cut that section off and weld in new steel as advised. If you are new to welding this may well be worth getting someone to weld it for you, you could do all the prep work yourself to keep costs down.

Cheers for the advice. I've got a friend who does welding so he's going too oversee the trailer side of it but as you said get some practise in which is pretty much the plan.

Just need too find something that's suitable for most jobs

As said before that will straighten out, just need some secure fixings and work in each plain first ie horizontally and then vertically will come back.
If Galvanised watch for fumes when welding and if you use heat. Ideally grind off the galv, and use a galv primer before you paint.

Looks like its only the cross member, but check the chassis fixings/mounts may have cracked.

Then weld the split at the back or if too big plate as mentioned as wide as possible.

I have a Clarke 135T Mig in hindsight i should have gone bigger but its good upto 5mm steel, im ausre that Draper one will do the job and be fine for hobbying welding.

Regarding the specific welder listed, I would not buy that. Poor duty cycle and only 4 power settings and it doesn't look like a euro torch either. Better off buying a better quality machine second hand. Bish.

Once you get your welding machine Bean, get some scrap bits and practice, practice, practice, that is the only way to gain some proficiency, having a mate to show you the ropes is good.

If it's for occasional use , Rohr welders get thumbs up from highly experienced welders . Their small , I should say absolutely tiny and lightweight 140 and 160 amp arc welders get great reviews and cost way less than £100 . They have one which has arc leads and tig leads , just need to buy tungsten tips for the tig lead . Check them out for yourself . Folk say you don't need more than 140 amps for welding cars . Some reviewers say they work fine on 4mm , 6mm plate .
They have mig welders also . Cheap and work great .
