United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Zambezi Silver
Crazy newbie. Sight unseen with inactive suspension :boom.

Hello all and greetings from the UK

I would like to introduce myself as one of your newest members.

For background, i've been into the Mercedes scene for the last 2.5 years and have been on a steep learning curve around them and DIY'ing all the tasks. Prior to March 2019 I hadn't ever used a socket wrench before. I have been active over on the MBO forums..

While I plan on keeping my Mercedes, I have just recently acquired a 2005 4.2 SC L322 in Silver, for £2k

What's totally mental about this purchase is that I don't have a massive amount of detail on the car. I haven't actually seen the interior at all and only a couple of not great photos of the exterior at odd angles. I have been told it's "very clean"

I do know the suspension is bust (on bump stops) due to water ingress during a recent car wash episode. The water has been identified as coming in one of the rear doors (side or tailgate).
The remote locking had supposedly stopped working but that has been referenced as fixed.
Also only one key (hate that!)
According to recent MOTs the rear subframe bushes are outstanding and nearside non-obligatory mirror is damaged (god knows how bad and the price of what I guess is a wing mirror)
The rear video screens aren't working.
Rear cameras and parking sensor work 90% of the time.
It also has "superficial" rust in the usual rear quarters. No idea about the tailgate.

Oh and it has 162k miles on the clock.....

Surprised

After some initial research here is what I am currently thinking

* Suspension is due to compressor getting shorted/wet. Considering that, the suspension system has shut down and won't raise because it knows the compressor is bust. The compressors needs test/refurb/renew and errors cleared and should work (big a** guess!!) - DIY

* I can get a new spare key programmed for £100

* Rust is a cut/weld/fill/spray job - DIY final spray might be pro depending on impact (silver is difficult to match)

* I believe the wires to rear screen were incorrectly routed under seats around 2005ish. I believe those wires are probably sliced and can patched up.

* No idea on rear camera + sensors

* Rear subframe bushes are a brutal job but i'll still DIY them.

I haven't actually received the car yet too... Surprised

I have referred to DIY as I am kind of into that. I have a decent tool setup and have done various jobs on my MB. I am also restoring a Renault Clio 172 Cup track car which has thought me a load and given me plenty of confidence. You can find that build here if curious. https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/thread...car.111627

Let's see how this all goes eh!

new ff

hello all. I've just ordered a Westminster Black in Eiger grey. I joined the Disco 3 site when it first started & I've owned l/r & rr for the last 20 yrs, ranging from disco 4 to r/r sport. The current one is a 2 yr old RR Sport HST. I've been quoted a delivery time of March 22, which is acceptable.

See what happens.

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black

Hi, new boy here!!!

Just purchased a 2007 tdv8 Vogue in need of some love, and ££££'s I'm sure!!

Self taught car messarounder for pushing 50 years now! Scary thought!

My main interest is hotods and have a couple and have built a number of them. Typically I do everything but draw the line at paint.

Got myself a FFRR for the versatility of size, comfort and towing ability.

I'm averagely well set up for quite a bit of DIY service and repair but the electricery scares the pants off me! Old school stuff with a couple of sensible refinements (eg electronic ignition) are my comfort zone, so I've a lot to learn!

I've read quite a bit here already over the last couple of evenings and have learned loads, so many thanks to all for that! I've not yet tried the search function and hope it will provide answers to all kinds of learning catchup as otherwise ill be asking questions, hopefully not overly idiotic though!

The car is a cat s salvage requiring some panel repair / replacement, all now done save for the paint! Embarked on a major service / orgy of oil. Thereafter I'll be looking at hopefully a dab radio upgrade and a towbar, and then any preventative maintenance, oh and a couple of rust repairs in the usual places.

Thanks for having me!!

Cheers
Chris

Slovakia 2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Fuji White

Hi all, newb here Laughing

Got me a 2011 Vogue TDV8 with a full service history (ie engine replaced by LR in the past) in a decent shape with some (hopefully) minor issues like beginning rust and small oil leak that need to be taken care of. I'm sure there's other stuff lurking where I will need your help with, so I'm very happy that I found this forum Smile

We picked up a 4.4L Jag engine 2006 Vogue, yesterday. I've been referred to this forum and I literally know nothing about Range Rovers (and I call myself a petrol head!).

United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Causeway Grey

Hello,

Just joined as I have bought a L405 from Twelve in Surrey.

Thought I could learn a lot and hopefully contrubute a little as I work my way through my second go at FFRR ownership.
I previously owned a P38 in Epsom which I did lots of work to and frankly shouldn't have sold.

Ad for my car here:

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Orkney Grey
Greetings from a long time lurker !

Greetings All,

I've just joined the fold, but haven't owned a LR for over 20 years; when I owned a couple of classic LSE Range Rovers, and used to commute 150 miles a day in my 4.2 V8. Hard to imagine now Shocked The last one was a 1994 LSE softdash in beluga black, brooklands bodykit, black wheels and black leather. God I LOVED that car! This replaced a 1993 that I ended up getting converted to a 300TDI.

Recent guzzlers were my 2006 Mercedes GL420 CDI, which I loved and replaced a 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, which was a disappointment on many levels.

Since dropping back to just my Renault Megane Coupe my wife and dog have not been happy, and to be fair its a horrible long distance car, when you want silence, comfort and space, so additional wheels were needed. I did also contemplate a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel, or a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

Lets be honest it should have been the Outlander to save money on fuel, but I wanted a full size that felt special. The Jeep would have cost over £100 a month more and have the risk of spun bearings etc, which is also the reason I avoid JLR 3.0 diesels.

So I've paid way too much for a 2012 Range Rover Vogue with 50,000 miles on the clock, but living in West Norfolk car viewing is at least a half day round trip and sparse pickings, so when I found one in a colour, interior and mileage I liked, I jumped at it.

The RR is basically mint and MOT history is clean with it only covering a few hundred miles a year for the past few years, which was why the prior owner sold it.

Externally its excellent, with no noticeable stone chipping, or corrosion, even on the tailgate. I saw a 61 plate in traffic today with a rusted out tailgate Crying or Very sad The inner rear arches have some surface rust and were packed with dry mud so that's the first job when I get it home. The interior other than a couple of marks on the drivers door still looks and smells new Very Happy

Hopefully I'll get a couple of years before I get bitten in the rump repair wise Laughing

Obviously I'll post pics when its delivered on Friday.

Laters chaps.
