David, Having gone from a 322 4.4 tdv8 to a 405 SDV8 imho the 322 is the more stable tow car. You can definitely feel the car being shoved around slightly more than I had ever noticed on the 322, that said I’m towing an 8’ wide 27’ long tin tent so it’s about maxed out on legal dimensions, but still way under weight. I’ve just come back from Dorset to Derby and it was stable enough at 60 only once or twice did I notice it starting to get a bit unruly, and tbh I wasn’t at 60 at that point……. I’m going to experiment with loading the caravan differently and see if that helps. I never once felt with the 322 that the van ever had the upper hand, different van now, but I did tow the old one with the 322 and 405 and the 405 felt less happy. Faster, but less happy. I generally put this down to the extra weight of the 322, and possibly a slightly longer rear overhang on the 405. The difference is marginal tho, and if you are sensible in loading and speed then the 405 isn’t far off a 322. Neither car will like doing 90 with 3 tonne behind it…….. but both will be happy with 2 at 60 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜 FFRR 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography Santorini Black. So, a L322 we were interested in and put a deposit on, which then got pulled from sale by the dealer, because once on the ramp it was in "bad way" underneath with rust and loads of work needed. I have seen it come up for sale at another dealer, quite a way from where the original dealer was.

I looked at an L322 AB which looked tidy on the outside but was pretty rotten underneath so I walked away despite the dealer saying they’d re all like that….. |

It is a problem at the moment with the L322. Good low miles examples are in short supply where they used to be abundant and prices at the upper end are now too close to the 405 for comfort. When this current price peak goes then the gap will widen again and unfortunately those who paid over the odds for the 322 will be left a bit out of pocket when they come to sell. The current model gets more and more expensive new and that does help the prices of second hand examples.
