Entering extended mode

Chaps

A couple of times recently (McDonald’s drive thru and parking on my drive) the vehicle has extended mode….. it thinks I’m stuck??

Whilst on my driveway I pressed access mode and the thing was going up and down like crazy. I drive round the block and parked again to try and replicate it but had no success.

Is something on the way out? a sensor perhaps? Or should I chalk this down to character.

If anyone else has experienced this then please share

Cheers

Jon

When it tried to lower, it sensed it wasn’t lowering fast enough, or it didn’t get to the desired lowered height. It then decided that this was probably due to an obstruction underneath, so went to extended mode so you stood the best chance of driving over the obstruction... that wasn’t there....

I’d check the exhaust filter on the air compressor in the boot. Sometimes get blocked and it can’t get rid of the air (to lower) fast enough....

I drilled a hole in mine when it went to extended mode, and then wouldn’t come down at all....

Might be something else, but this would be an easy fix....

This is usually caused by the exhaust filter on the compressor blocking up (they all do it eventually). This slows the release of air to such an extent that the car thinks you're grounded (as the car isn't lowering fast enough) and sends itself into extended mode to try and clear the obstacle.

The simple fix is to drill a small hole through the filter. A quick search on the forum will turn up a few threads on this. Thumbs Up Bish.

Whilst the compressor is exhaust valve is the most likely suspect for you, I had this problem on my old Sport and it ended up being the front offside shock that was knackered and unable to compress when going into access mode. Kev
