How low can you go ? (miles to empty)

I was determined to make it to my regular full up stop today, but an extended high speed run had hit my fuel economy and I only just made it.....

A butt clenching 2 miles range left apparently

but a fill up of over 100 litres means it can't have been that far off - I always thought I had a 95l tank for some reason, but I guess it must be 105l Shocked

I wish mine had a 100 litre tank, even if the price is heart stopping Shocked

I did once manage to get 21 gallons in my old XM though... Rolling Eyes

I drove the other day for 10 plus minutes after mine went to zero as there was nothing about, my old L322 you could easily go 20 miles let alone 10 minutes after it said — I found when I purposely ran it out.

For me the was no cough or splitter or fuel pump noise just running to stopped instantly when it ran out.

This has got me wondering what happens if I run out of petrol in my PHEV, but still have a full battery. And what the car's performance would be like. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

I thought I'd set a new record tonight, but after finding this thread realised i had at least a litre to go. I was still showing 20 miles though.

Glad I had a 5% off voucher - 1.10 EUR for premium diesel, outrageous Shocked

Yes - I thought I'd rack up a few miles

Have been in Bordeaux for a couple of weeks but popped over to Andorra yesterday. Hopefully by the time I come back to the UK there will be no quarantine from France.

2013 - 2015 L405 sdv8 holds 105 litres same as the L322, post 2015 with the Add Blue tank holds 87 litres, I can only assume to keep the kerb weight the same.
P.S. Be careful running them low - out of fuel, the pump could suck air which would not do it any favours, and they’re not cheap to replace.
I too would prefer the bigger tank, it does make that bit of difference on those longer Euro runs. Very Happy

Best practice is to never go below 25% because you inhibit dpf regeneration and we all know what happens next Rolling with laughter

Also all the crud at the bottom of your tank will eventually clog your fuel filter and as mentioned, air in the fuel system Rolling with laughter 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

They warn in the manual to NEVER use the PHEV without gas!

Playing fuel light bingo with a petrol car wouldn't be too bad, but as diesel dave points out, do this with a diesel car and you could damage the pump(s) and have the hassle of having to bleed the system.

I would think that calling out the AA due to an empty tank with a FFRR would be rather embarrassing Whistle
One could imagine the expression on the face of an AA mechanic, 'Wot! you ran out of fuel driving one of these' Thud

I get the risk of running dry - but the crud in the bottom of the tank is one I've never really understood - same crud, same pickup location on a full tank.... maybe regularly running low keeps things better than doing it once in a blue moon ?

Same with DPF - never had an issue, probably as I do a lot of long journeys.

I always fill up then run to about 50 miles left on the range, sometimes I end up going longer, but rarely fill up much earlier except when I'm just about to set off on a long trip.
