Tbh mate if your buying pattern parts for a range rover you probably shouldn't own one in the first place. I'm not saying everything has too be genuine but certain things really shouldn't be replaced with pattern crap

That's why I wanted a genuine one. I bought a pattern lower tailgate strut once. It was worse than the original!!!

even pattern part suspension bolts are poorer quality. They look the same before they're fitted but generally rust has formed on them within a couple of months.

I'm no expert on these matters but imagine that genuine bolts would have been plated to higher standard. 2010 VSE [Roger]

Question I was going to ask here - who is the oem manufacturer for the 2010-12 struts? 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)

They were manufactured by Delphi, more specifically, the Chassis Division of Delphi. BWI subsequently acquired that division so BWI are now the OEM. Kev

OEM used to mean Original Equipment Manufacturer & meant the original supplier of the part in question.
Unfortunately, the use has now been bastar*1sed and now gets used to mean manufacture by any manufacturer that has supplied any part to Land Rover wherever used & possibly not including the part under discussion.
Ie it's now meaningless.
An OE supplier of wiper blades can be said to be OEM for suspension bushes - even though they never supplied them to Land Rover ( or potentially any other car maker) for use on the production line. Paul,

My understanding of OEM is the part is the same as originally supplied to RR in this case minus the branding. so if Bilstien for example supplied the rear shock it will probably have LR branding on it and come in a LR box. the same shock can be had from Bilstien but just branded by Bilstien not LR.

i cannot comment about if a supplier made one part it can them claim OEM status on other parts. If it does i would expect that part to be engineered to the exact spec of the original part.

If you don't buy genuine then you buy OE as the part will be the same as used on the production line. After a specific time producing parts for the line the maker is then licensed by JLR to be able to make the part and sell it under it's own branding...

OEM means the part is made by a company that has made other parts for the production line BUT NOT the part in question... a big difference but a better option than some of the Chinese copies that are everywhere and very cheap...

The problem is knowing if the claims to be OE or OEM are correct, it is impossible to tell in most cases and the amount of total fakes around is growing meaning you pay top dollar and get a cheap fake.... it's big business and is now creeping into aircraft parts....  Pete

I do not always automatically buy LR branded parts. I look at what is available and who the makers are, and their reputation, as well as pricing.
With some parts, it is possible to get equivalent quality parts at cheaper prices. That way you still get peace of mind and reliability.

Note, My viewpoint is from someone maintaining a 2006 car, if the spares are as good as the originals, I cannot see the point of paying extra money for LR branded parts, especially if there is a considerable difference in prices. ( Obviously I do not have to buy specified parts relative to any vehicle warranty requirements )
