I've got to admit that was certainly a consideration.

But so far, the only other issues in the past 4 months of ownership (and a further 3k+ miles on the clock) was loss of Audio and the Air compressor Air Silencer valve replaced. Both fixed under warranty.

Thats the beauty of buying an approved LR vehicle, call out LR assist, if they cant fix it there and then, they arrange a hire car.

Gone are the days struggling to get a timely appointment at the Dealers, and then being told we have no courtesy car's available Sir! 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Kot your experience is skewing the stats.

The more call outs the more unreliable is a car.
When it is in fact due to misuse of the car.

Next is EGR and DPF issue waiting for you. That can lead to head gasket failure on some car if not fixed.

Just to give you an example... I own another brand of car... since 10 years now. I have not claimed warranty... even once. Right car for the right job.

It's your personal choice though I guess. I don't like my car breakdown when I am getting late to give someone a bypass. Or the feel or fear of breakdown.

That’s absurd! You can run a diesel with low, city mileage. If you literally could not there would be warnings, and there are not.

Now, logic dictates there are certain power trains better optimised for certain tasks. But for a heavy SUV then diesel is kinda default regardless of lifestyle. In fact many manufacturers only offer diesel, like the Merc GLS or BMW X7sad. Thumbs Up

I ran a diesel RRS for 9 or 10 years from new, 37,000 miles in 10 years… yes, turbo actuator went! Rolling Eyes In year 4. Later, I used fuel additives and I feel the motor was in much better tune.. low mileage diesel drives, additives are your friend.

I now run a PHEV petrol hybrid so I get the most of all worlds: the torque of a mid-range diesel and the fuel economy of a 5.0SC v8. Nice! Bow down L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Broken turbo... I rest my case.

As for 5.0L autobiography... I had one..I can say the mpg were bad. Used to get 18mpg. But what a vehicle. Not a single issue during ownership. I have p400e autobiography now. I do not like it at all and would not buy another one. But excellent fuel economy.

Wonder why they stopped 4.4... maybe because people were mis using it?

I can't wait for a full electric Range Rover.

Think P400e is what will suit you more. I have moved from 5.0L and the biggest issue for me is how underpowered it is but I think your city runs should been ideal.

I thought the reason the 4.4 V8 diesel was dropped was because of emissions.

Could been emissions yes. Makes more sense. It is a smog machine after all.

Kot Yeah I didn't know that. Must admit I have not owned a 4.4. But honestly my opinion is that if I am giving that amount of money for a car... it should not break down. Maybe you are used to breakdowns.... I don't know.

My 4.4 has been fine. I did look at a P400e, but the boot size was a bit borderline with the executive rear seats so losing depth as well would have made it too small really. I think the electric running suits the RR really well, but I don’t do short journeys / city driving so less benefit and all the downsides of 4 cylinder engine which didn’t feel right in a RR. It was hard enough moving from a petrol V8 back to a diesel, losing cylinders as well would be a step too far.

If I lived in and drove around a large city, then a ‘lie-brid’ might have made sense, but I’d have had to buy a Cayenne or X5 to get a 6 cylinder petrol.

Didn’t they stop offering the SDV8 because Ford wasn’t putting it in any of their vehicles and didn’t want to keep making it? I can’t see JLR dropping it a year or so before the new model otherwise, even if it will be more profitable selling their V6 diesel at a similar price. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Must admit since few months of ownership of the P400e... I have not filled any fuel. It's been in electric mode. Compared to the 5.0 where I think I used to spend between 60-80 pounds a month. I drive very few miles.
But it does not feel like a Range Rover with a 2.0L when I floor it. It goes no where.

jackcramerr, agree, a full electric fatty will be quite a thing!

I was tongue in cheek regards economy. Yeah, it’s just fine, but highly variable depending on how much battery, the speed etc. But I don’t really track economy as fuel costs for me are not even a rounding error. I do track my fueling, and those interested in the P400e may be interested to note this below. See on 11th April I brimmed the tank at 5675. I’m now on 6264 miles and have 20% fuel remaining. So now I think about it, the lack of refuelling during my day to day urban driving is extraordinary, really. The fuel tank is pressurised to help keep the fuel in better condition.

As for performance, I remember going from a 4.2 XKR to a 3.0 RRS and, oh boy, did it feel slow! However, going from a 3.0 RRS to the P400e and the new car feels fast, so it’s all relative. I also drive around town a lot and the P400e is nice and urgent at urban speeds, I guess less so on the motorway, although I it’s no slouch, but honestly I like the lazy cruising these days. The P400e is perfect for my lifestyle and I wouldn’t have a 5.0 unless they did a PHEV 5.0 in which case sign me up because that would truly be the best of all worlds. I don’t like supercharger whine and, shock horror, I do like the sound of my 4 pot under hard acceleration but in a hot hatch sort of way, which I admit is not in keeping with the rest of the car. But I could count the number of times I’ve been over 3000 revs and actually heard the engine on one hand in the last month or two. Low down torque helps as does 1700w hifi Twisted Evil

Daft question, how long does modern e5 and e10 unleaded last before it goes off? reason i ask is a colleague of mine with a BMW530e just tried to do an extended journey for the first time in 8months courtesy of the COVID restrictions, and once he exceeded battery distance it coughed spluttered and rolled to a stop on the hard shoulder. The AA man blamed the fuel having gone off and triggered the issue. Drained the tank, fresh fuel in cranked over a few times and it was back to normal 3hrs after it rolled to a halt.

Now wondering how long unleaded in current and future e10 form last before they go off??

Out of interest which additive did you use? We’re just looking for some for ours which is hoggish mileage diesel.

Many thanks in advance,
