Looks a good fix Thumbs Up ,
I've noticed on my rear arches a slight discolouration starting on the edges.
The existing door rubber only overlaps about 50% of the arch return bend leaving the remainder exposed to the elements.
Does it catch on the door rubber when the door is closed?
Peter

Hi Peter

On both cars it does not - having said that the rubber that was the original LR stuff ( good stuff ) - had bent into various shapes

I was careful in removing it - I think the winter crap had deformed the metal inside.

A point worth looking at is another post I have added a few minutes ago - again this might be helpful to you

Rear wheel arches Report post

Just to add to these good winter points

I have sprayed Hammerite BLACK wax oil IN LIP & ON LIP EDGES of both rear wheel arches - with a new black protective rubber strip on both FFRR ready for winter
to help with spraying I usually add 10% white spirit to the Hammerite pressure sprayer can to help get consistent flow - hardens after 1 hour

again hope this helps with ideas

all the best

Hi,
thanks for the information, also the other post was very interesting. The safety comment about not relying on the air suspension good point, oops.
I did exactly that when i got the car this year, I went underneath to take pictures of the suspension, my old classic just had coils and live axles, this set up is a whole new experience.

Hi Paul

the old ones measured 430mm in length each ( that's on a 4.4 TDV8 12 plate ) not sure if 07 - 10 year are different ? - worth checking but should be the same

again hope this is helpful

Hi Peter

Have a look at when the cars on the lowest suspension setting - there's not much clearance for you if you were under her !!!!! - I am sure they have a mind of their own

Good luck with yours if you decide to do it -

These were fitted to the Freelander as standard and can be bought from Dan @ Duckworths. They're also fitted to our 2012 from the factory so should also be available.

My post on here (2nd to last) has the part number for the strip from the Freelander that appears to be the right length.

I'm going to upgrade the rubber rear arch trims on our 2012. Theyre genuine LR/ arches are not affected by rust.

Was it not rightly pointed out in previous posts that the rubber strips with metal in them can contribute to corrosion?

If so, with our former SC and based on forum rec's I accorded with the following, which worked a treat:

I've used the door edge protector shown below on the wheel arch return flange. Had it on a couple of years up to now. Before fitting I cleaned the flange on both faces and applied a liberal coating of black grease to each face, fitted the protector strip and cleaned off the excess grease. Just took the strips off recently to clean, regrease and refit. The flanges are like new. Done my daughters Freelander the same way instead of using the LR replacement part. IMO the plastic strip is better than the LR strips as it is all plastic and therefore doesn't corrode. Looks very professional when fitted.

ndf's plastic strips don't seem to go out of shape like the original ones.

Thanks Thumbs Up

I’ve just ordered some of the plastic door edge ones. The Land Rover ones have all corroded and bent out of shape.....
