We have room for a few more cars on the drive... Thumbs Up

Craig, I thought of that, I decided to park fatty in with it and I'm far too lazy to move it and take the Rangie... Laughing Pete

They are definitely cheap, and I can see some logic. But then again L322 are cheap as well, that is why I got mine to use for my weekly refuge collection Center aka tip run. I couldn’t go for a Mondeo 🤣 Brave, smart or foolish. I’m not sure which 🤣🤣

Not directly fatty related but it does mean fatty can come off the road for a bit for me to do the list of stuff I would like to it...

Fatties boot mat has been knocked into shape and is sorted to my spec...

Found out why it had been sold, it kept throwing an EGR fault and spitting it's dummy out...the EGR's are water cooled on this model and cost many hundreds... a quick trip to a mate and he chipped the EGR out for a few beer tokens, goes excellently now...

Tow bar with full electrics £21 on eBay
New headlights to get rid of the dodgy blacked out ones £35 delivered for the pair...
Rear lights machine polished to get rid of the tinted paint, did a quick job on the paintwork as well and it actually looks quite good now...

And the very best bit, a Tesla style display running Android 10, built in Carplay, touch screen heater controls and many other features... £198 delivered from Aliexpress... took 20 mins to fit it and it works spot on...

Fatty can get some TLC and a few updates now Thumbs Up Pete

Pete! I love the CarPlay upgrade, especially how bloody easy it was - how we'd love a similar fix for the L322 Laughing

I'd pay the cash for the system, no sweat, it's finding someone competent enough to do it - I'd end up killing the entire vehicle

One year and 14,000 miles in fatty....

I am stunned by how reliable it has been, it has only needed two new high pressure fuel pumps. (£300)

Everything else was just servicing and upgrades I wanted to do..

Fatty has been cleaned up and will be receiving some upgrades soon, I have a list of things I want to do....

Went for a drive today and a nasty vibration started around 50mph TC, propshaft or callipers sprung to mind, when we got home both rear wheels were warm, fronts were cold, so it looks like the second year of ownership starts with a new pair of callipers...

All in all very happy with the ownership experience though... Thumbs Up Pete

When you pull up in traffic and notice that smoke is pouring off the rear nearside wheel it's time for some work....! That's a problem with the S/C... 500+BHP and you just don't notice a sticking calliper....

Past experience tells me to just change the lot, so a trip to my favourite garage, a borrow of a lift, and the fun begins...

I decided to rebuild the callipers, new ones for the 2010 up L322 are £350 each, rebuilt, nearly £200 each....

The nearside was totally seized on but came off with just a little hammer work..! the offside looks like it had been partially seizing for some time... The offside calliper came apart fairly easily, an airline blew the piston out, no way was that happening to the nearside one, a club hammer and chisel was needed to get the piston out...

Nearside...

With both pistons out the bores looked fine

The pistons didn't look too bad either but apparently they can oval when they get very hot...

Everything else was stripped off and they were sent to the powder coaters to be finished in Dark Gunmetal, they were away for a couple of days and on return I rebuilt them with new seals and pistons along with a fitting kit.... Rebuilt and ready to fit with all new parts..

The new Brembo discs were already finished in what looks like powder coating... a very similar colour to the callipers.

The handbrake shoes are known to delaminate and jam the brakes up so it made good sense to replace them as well, they were fairly worn.

The back plates are also well known for rusting away so I wire brushed them and gave them a thin coat of Dinitrol ML to help them live a bit longer.. Fitted with new shoes and springs..

You can see where the offside calliper has been sticking in the past and allowing the disc to get like this...

Outside, all looks well...

Inside, rather poor.....

Then the fun bit begins, putting all the nice shiny bits back on....

Bedding in procedure.

What did it cost...

Calliper seals and pistons £30
Calliper and carrier sandblast and powdercoat £60
Brembo discs £102
Pajid pads £30
Pajid Handbrake shoes and fitting kit £38

So £260 in parts and about 6 hours over a couple of days... Less than the new price of one calliper...!!!

Should be sorted for a while now... Pete
