System too lean bank 1 weirdness

Hi all

As some of you know I could probably write a book on doagnosing lean codes I had a pair I just couldn’t shift about 18months ago and finally sorted and everything was running great.

Yesterday evening… one was bank just bank 1, as it came in the car was a little lumpy and I could smell unburnt petrol with the window open while driving conservatively.

Turned it off and started it today light still on it was still lumpy and still could smell the unburnt fuel.

Plugged the iid tool back in cleared the fault the revs/lumyness immediately corrected itself and I started driving again and the petrol smell was gone??? I didn’t even turn the car off between clearing the fault? How has a lean fault manage to make it not burn fuel properly and run lumpy? Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF

That's weird...

You have a symptom, fatty informs you, you clear the notification and the fault clears ending the symptom....

Weird things on fatties....?? How's your battery...?? Pete

18 months old good and BIIIG I shoehorned a 11ah in Smile

Yes exactly this - id normally blame LPG but I've no used It for 2 months as the garage is being refurbed so this is purely petrol...

I guess I will check the trims and go from there and maybe give it a smoke test once over.

Heres a question... if you had a slight oil leak from the oil pan, could it draw air in there and cause a lean condition? Current stable:
