United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.2 SC V8 Java Black
replaced all bolts on the slam panel today

could be ott but replaced all the bolts with stainless steel bolts and washers see wear the alloy and steel come together and make the white powder they would rot and snap of then a hell of a job to drill out and tap . cleaned holes with gt 85 and put back with a lot of copper slip good job i am semi retired to much time on my hands but it is just nice to no that you have done your best

IMHO don't use copper slip with two different metals, you will encourage galvanic corrosion especially with some salty water in the winter, I use Dinitrol and have had good results in stopping further corrosion... Thumbs Up Pete

haylands that looks so much better i see you used bolts wear the receivers go i have just got some dome ones coming because i thought it that it would fowl the bonnet when closing .done the 8 mm ones as well . looking good i am glad i am not the only one that likes it looking right i can understand ref the copper slip might slacken off tomorrow and do the same as yours yours new vehicle purchase

Just one word of caution....... DO NOT drop any stainless fasteners down into the engine bay, as a magnet will NOT pick up stainless steel

I used A2 Stainless which you can pick up with a strong enough magnet, you could use A4 Marine grade but not really needed on a fatty... Thumbs Up Pete

I stand corrected, once again Whistle it's all marine grade in my line of work. Just make sure it's not Chinese 'stainless' that rusts like hell.

I like the look of that, I'm going to have to do that myself me thinks. Nothing worse than opening bonnet to find rusty bolts everywhere.
Would it be safe to steam clean the engine? It's rather dusty and horrible, I'm rather anal about having dirty engines.

And how much extra would it have cost Land Rover to do this from new, next to nothing. I really dont understand the LR mentality, a car that's designed to wade, go off road etc has fasteners that can corrode, sub frames that can corrode and brake lines that corrode. Every design change and longevity upgrade have to pass the most important question car manufacturers ask....
