I take it this is a 3.6TDV8. It certainly looks like it, but if you add the detail to your profile, people will know in future.

Thanks for that Steve. I did actually think it pushed on that nipple but when I took the air filter out I couldn't see a hole inside the air box so thought maybe not in that case I will push it back on and try and find where that other pipe supposed to go. And yes it's the 3.6 tdv8. I wonder if that would cause black soot then when im flooring the accelerator. Turns out I've also just noticed an oil leak coming from the back of the engine somewhere. It's dripped all down the steering rack into the driveshaft and various other suspension components, will need to check that out the weekend when I get back to the UK. Any idea where the norm is for it to leak around there? |

Well well well now that is strange. I pushed that hose on to the nipple on side of air box, all was fine until I got on the motorway last night, floored it and the car went straight into limp mode with message engine fault no eml. Just managed to crawl into services, plugged in the gap and fault said intake manifold valve stuck in closed position. Reset fault and carried on with my journey, no problem for about an hour then same again. This time I just turned engine off, restarted and continued and then same thing again half hour later. It only seems to do it when I put my foot down, not hard but gently I dare not floor it hard. So I then took the pipe off the nipple and connected it to the other pipe that was hanging loose and now all seems fine again. I'm beginning to wonder if there is some problem with vac hoses being attached in the wrong places. Before i bought the car, the owner took it in to replace manifold gasket and it was a body off jobby because they snapped 2 bolts. I'm wondering if they didn't put it all back together correctly. Looks like it's going to be a long afternoon fault finding me thinks after the qualifying. Anybody have any ideas where to start? |

Body off? Can’t do that with the L322, it’s monocoque.

Can't help with your pipe issue but you can't take the body off an L322 Range Rover, they are a monocoque design. Someone is telling your porkies....

Thanks guys. Oh dear that's what was told to the previous owner. But then I've been told by various others that the body has to come off when changing the turbos on L322's or is it engine out on these, totally confused now.

The L322 does not have a separate chassis. There are front and rear subframes that hold the suspension etc, which may confuse folk.

Right guys after a quick inspection after taking the air filter housing off I came across a few things that are not right. First of all, the housing wasn't positioned correctly into the big round rubber grommet that goes into the wing for the air intake (pic 1).

Pic 1 where they crimped the pipe to the air housing.

If you download the Workshop Manual from the Wiki it will have diagrams showing where all the pipes go, it might take a while to find them but they will be there.... Pete

Thanks Haylands. I've connected all the pipes and tubes properly and securely and where I believe they should all fit so I think that should solve the problem. I will take it for a spin down the A38 after the qualifying and let you know.

Put everything back together, all the hoses in the correct places and just took it for a spin and woooooooow what a difference it's made. Acceleration is so much more better and far more smoother, absolutely flew when I put my foot down, so much more responsive. And I'm getting nowhere near as much black soot out the exhaust under acceleration, still a little bit but not clouds, hopefully this will cease after a short time of driving it. I was getting an average of 27.6mpg at a steady 75 so I wonder if I'll get better mpg now.

That's great news, glad it's fixed and running well... pat yourself on the back for sorting it... Pete
