Is this normal for the front upper control arms

Just looked under the car and noticed a gap in the control arm bush, it’s exactly the same on both sides I took a video (no idea how to upload a video) does this look normal

I would say they look completely worn out. Mine look the same but passed the MOT 2 months ago!! Was expecting it to fail.

I would expect some knocking, even if slight, and difficult to hear.

As for your comment Kevinp, I think you have found the 'Holy Grail'.... A blind Range Rover MOT tester Rolling with laughter Everyone on here will want the name of your MOT test station. Thumbs Up Where I go they seem to have X-ray vision Big Cry

I agree Merchy. It was a main dealer as well!! I get quite a loud bang/thump when braking sharply and I'm sure it's them bushes.

No issues when driving but noticed a thump on entering a car park that has a speed bump you hit at an angle, the video I too shows the arm moving in and out on the bushing going to take it to my indi for a quote, 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

I think the bush number is LR018345. Have a look at a picture of one. They are hollow but yours do look torn as do mine. Let us know how you get on. Cheers Kev.

Mine need replacing every 12 months as the bush doesn't stand up to rough roads.

Do you replace the whole arm or just the bush? I've got a 20 ton shop press and was thinking of replacing the bushes. you must have some rough roads out there mate for the bushes only to last that long.

I replace the bushes using a 10T press.

Pot-holes and bumps on unsealed roads at speed knock the bushes about quite a lot. It's the variable traction of the wheels while pulling forwards on rough surfaces that does the damage. Prior to fitting the most recent pair I filled the rear void with marine polyurethane but found that 2 weeks wasn't enough time for the polyurethane to cure inside so a lot leaked out when refitting the arms so next time I'll fill in layers. I tried poly bushes only for a very short time as I didn't like the harshness they caused.

Good idea though. I guess poly bushes are for track day cars.

I use the Lemforder bushes which I understand are the OEM supplier.

Earlier this year Meyle, who produce a standard duty version of this bush, said that they would look into producing a HD version but I don't know if they've made any progress. Meyle produce a HD version of the equivalent bush on a D4 which people report as not making the ride any different to the LR hydro bushes yet last longer with outback travel use.
