2008 Audio/head unit fault

Hi everyone
I have searched the forum but not come up with a clear answer.
A few weeks ago the audio system started malfunctioning. The audio system started this cycle. The head unit would freeze, there would be a sharp noise through speakers and radio would stop for about 8 seconds, return to normal for a about 20 seconds, then repeat. While it was stopped the orange light on the volume button would flash. The reverse camera all worked ok.

Now when I start the car the normal Land Rover splash appears on the audio screen, the orange light on the volume button flashes constantly, and the screen stays locked in that situation. No audio, none of the head unit controls respond, and reverse camera image doesn’t appear. Just stays locked on the Land Rover splash screen.

Otherwise the car functions normally.

The GAP IID tool throws up the following fault message after clearing other faults:
IPC-Instrument Pack

U0248-87 (2F) Lost communication with remote driver utility module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. ______________________________

Just to clarify, I ran the IID tool scanner over the car when the intermittent audio problem appeared. The IDD showed the same fault. The below fault is from two weeks ago.

IPC-Instrument Pack

U0248-87 (2F) Lost communication with remote driver utility module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message

Thanks. ______________________________

Also, I did review the below wiki post.

I have checked the fuses but not done the hard reset or bypassed the Nokia unit as I would like phone connectivity. I assume this is what Nokia unit does. ______________________________

Hi, I had a similar problem a while ago. It turned out to be moisture getting into to LH rear compartment where all the phone, tv, DVD stuff is. I replaced the phone module, which was the culprit and all was good. Apparently if moisture gets into any of the modules it can affect all of them as they are connected via a fibre optic cable, which hates water. Water can enter this compartment via a blocked rear sunroof drain. I hope this helps.
Cheers, Phil.

thanks, I'm assuming Brisbane humidity has finally had an impact. Even though its winter here in SH.

I will try one or two more tricks then look toward buying another Nokia unit. ______________________________

Bypass the Nokia unit to establish if it is that before buying a new one. John

Today I finally got around to by-passing the Nokia unit. But no change. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Did you wrap that at all? I did the same in mine but wrapped it all with black electrical tape.
Logic being it’s fibre optic and therefore light signals.
Might be worth a go. 07 4.2 Supercharged

Thanks Ash. Finally got back to this. Wrapped it all up in black tape. But no luck unfortunately. ______________________________

All resolved. It turns out the problem module was a Mobridge digital radio receiver I added. Currently by-passed. Will disconnect power and remove eventually. ______________________________
