As long as your brakes aren't binding and your tyre pressures are right then your MPG wont be much different to anyone else doing the same trips in the same car.
I've never achieved any of the brilliant MPG figures that I've seen claimed for any car I've ever had. My experience is that the on board figure calculated by the car is very optomistic (blatant manufacturers lie!) and easily manipulated by selective resetting and carefull throttle use.
Over nearly 200K of miles in various L322s I've found that my 3.6s would show an average of about 24MPG (but I could easily exceed 30MPG by selective resetting) and brim to brim would show 20 to 22MPG. My 4.4 shows an average of 27ish MPG (over 35MPG with selective resetting) and brim to brim is 24 to 25MPG.
Personally I think these are amazing figures for a 2Tonne+ 4 wheel drive brick with a V8 engine in it. They're not what you'd spec on a car where fuel economy was a priority.

i have same year 4.4TDV8 my long term according to the car is 26.8 this is running kids to school and shopping trips mainly rural and town roads, i generally get 450 from full to just under 1/4 tank which is usually my fill up point.
If i go on longer runs then that generally gets me to 30-32. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current
2014 Navara V6 - Gone
2004 Vogue TD6 - Gone
Grand Cherokee - Gone
Discovery V8 (LPG) - Gone
Discovery TD5 - Gone

Have just done a real time test. real Avge was 25.6 Mpg. Thats mainly town driving (lots of stop and start which is hard for this car) and some dual carriageway. I went to Cornwall last month (350 motorway miles) and got 30.6 on the computer. That was at 75 cruise. on fill up it showed 500 mile range for the first time ever! normally range shown is 475-490.

Overall mainly 23-26 real time MGP.

You can always get a lift to stretch the mpg further....
