Wife broke my Key

So SWMBO dropped my key, it's clearly broken something on the PCB as it no longer works. Called local dealer £675, includes coding though..... Holy mother of God, tell me that's a p!ss take...

Buy a new key off Ebay and get someone with an IID Tool Pro to program it for you.
Mikey is in Dundee and he may be able to help you.

IIDtool won't do anything unless he's very very lucky and got a non updated KVM (keyless Vehicle Module). The KVM modules had an update making them a one time write for key codes to help with security ie thieves turning up with a key and just programming a new key in seconds.

The dealer will be quoting for a new KVM aswell as a key, sounds similar to what I was quoted.

My replacement key cost about £200, the KVM had to be removed, the memory chip desoldered and put on a chip reader/writer to delete and add the key codes and then re solder it back into place. The lock the Land Rover put on the KVM is upstream of the memory so it's still possible.

You've just got find a good auto locksmith that has the right equipment. Current

Cheers lads . I would hope, in my naivety that since mine is an early one (2013) that the KVM might not have been updated.. found a cheap second hand remote on tinterwebs so happy to lose a few quid before deciding what to do. The parts guy did say to check if insurance covered it. Yes it does , but standard excess applies, I’d hoped it would be a reduced amount a la windscreen etc. my excess is higher than quoted, if needs be, I’ll shop around, should the eBay remote not work. Might see if the old man has a magnifying glass & a soldering iron first, can’t break the thing more...

Even with the early L405's it was a free upgrade/recall at the time. I remember taking mine in for the work maybe 2015 ?

You never know though & certainly worth a try
