Another day another problem

Right,
On my way home from playing golf car starts making a horrible noise like its dragging something. Turns out to be the shield that sits behind the front disc's. its held (was) by 3 bolts into the hub carrier and the aluminum shield has corroded thus vibrating and making the horrible din. I've removed said part by cutting it to go over the hub carrier. does anyone know how the hell the new one will go on? i'm assuming its a cheap part and not needed but cant for the life of me see how it will fit over the axel ends to get to its home location! Any help?
Also in this afternoons DIY i've discovered my outer dust cover on the caliper piston is dead. does anyone know or have the part number to replace this? seals aren't leaking but i'm sure they will if i don't fix next week when i do the brakes.

The hub need to be split to replace the rear covers, but not worth the hassle of doing that. I have new covers for mine and I will cut them and slip them into place then stitch a small weld over the cut to finish the job off.

You can buy caliper seals at LR, they comprise of inner and outer seal and bought as single side packs

are the inner seals easy enough to replace? it was fronts by the way but will do the same and cut the guard and weld.

Had the same happen to my brake shields. Like has been said, just cut them to fit. I used penny(bodgit washers) to strenghten area around mounting holes.

Is it the inner seal (the one that keeps the fluid in) or the outer dust seal?

Outer dust seal. Thought if it came in a kit with inner and dust might do both if the inners were easy.

You would have to bleed the brakes if you changed the inner seals. If the calipers aren't leaking or sticking just change the outer dust seals. Make sure that all the crud is cleaned off the retaining lip before fitting the new seal. piston has th be pressed fully home before the seal can be fitted

Ok that sounds good. Will give them a good clean and re-fit the seal. What's best for cleaning the pistons? Do you have the part numbers for the seals and guards?

The seals kit is part number SEE 000020

Clean the lip with a piece of fine emery cloth or sand paper or steel wool and make sure no dirt goes into the caliper bore
