Having just calculated how far my first full tank got me, Im getting 25mpg. Thats slightly worse than the car tells me, but on par with an old Jaguar XJ8 that I had beforehand, so to get the same file economy for something twice the size is fine with me. I didn't buy this car to save money on fuel |

Interesting to me how the engines have become more efficient while getting much faster. MPG has always been a non-factor in vehicle selection for me - I came to Fullfats from a 5.4V8 F150 Anniversary. Got about 14 or 15 out of that. Anyway, FWIW:

^^ no idea how you are getting 20+ mpg from the Ford SC 5.0 V8.....you must be near 100% highway. Typical is 15mpg range 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

You're right of course that type and style of driving are crucial to the figures. Its easy to get into single figures if you live in a city and accelerate hard from all the stops. I live in the middle of nowhere so its a long way to anywhere I may want to go. No short journeys helps. Also we have other cars for other tasks so the FF is mostly used for long runs when the comfort is appreciated and I'm not ragging it. I've not towed with the SVA yet, but MPG would fall to about 15 or 16 when towing (car or plant) with any of the L322s - much the same in any of them. But I don't think our different experience is all about type and style of driving - I'm guessing you're comparing US gallons vs UK gallons ?? Add another 25% of fuel to yours and the figures would look similar to mine. I am amazed at the figures some of you are getting. Either you have very light right feet or your computers lie with impunity. I tend to brim fill every time from close to empty and reset the trip, I then do mental maths and my Euro 6 SDV8 is a consistent 27 +/-2 all its 66,000 miles.

this! I saw a thread recently where someone broke down costs of ownership into depreciation and fuel costs. The answer came out as: just get the maddest engine you can afford, because the fuel difference is maybe £20-£40 a week, and if you are quibbling over £1-2k a year on these beasts, then you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. Years ago I had a Jag XJS V12. On a good day it gave 15 mpg (18 once I did a manual gearbox conversion). It was totally worth it to hear then engine start up every day. |

True....I was thinking US gallons. Side note....I was pleasantly surprised I still got 15MPG this past weekend towing the fiberglass bass boat 4 hours (mostly all highway). 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC 2008 FFRR (sold) 2008 BMW M5 |
