Mine sounds nothing like that I’m afraid . Mines a few years older though. Not sure whether that would make any difference. |

My 2017 4.4SDV8 sounds nothing like that, and neither did my 2012 4.4TDV8

My 2016 doesn’t sound like that either. Sorry but you may need to find a really good indie to fathom that noise out |

My 2016 MY doesn’t make a noise like that and if it did I’d be getting a tech to look at it. Something sounds wrong there |

Thanks everyone. Really helpful feedback. And it looks like I do have a serious issue.
at a cost of £4K. I only purchased the car (from an independent dealer) on 16th March and I’m waiting to hear their proposal re next steps. but what I don’t understand is why the previous keeper wouldn’t have had any issues dealt with by Land Rover given that the car is still under manufacturers warranty. I’m now seriously considering rejecting the car as it’s within 30 days of purchase. Thanks again Andrew |

As you say, odd why the original owner didn’t get any issues resolved via LR. I think you are possibly on the right track with rejection.

That's a very strange one. I'd ask for a complete print out of all warranty work carried out, just in case the loose bolts / instant gasket are actually from work done by another LR dealer (i.e. under warranty). You could also ask for any information regarding to previous customer complaints about noises, etc. The only other thing I can think of is that the original 3 year LR warranty ended, something then went wrong and was fixed by a generic garage, then the owner took out an extended warranty with LR? How does the LR warranty end date align to the car's date of first registration? Should be about the same day & month if there's never been any gap in cover. Thanks. Yes, it does all seem very odd. The manufacturer warranty doesn’t expire until 2nd May 2021 so no gap in cover and no logical reason for the previous keeper not using main dealer. Unless as you suggest it WAS carried out by a main dealer. And given the quality of repair carried out recently on my Defender it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility! And it does have FMDSH.
What’s so frustrating is that I had it serviced by a main LR dealer prior to collecting the car and none of this was picked up. Andrew |

With that list and the age of the car (to you) I would reject the car and find one without those issues.

If it can't be proved the previous repair was done by a LR main dealer, then I'd reject the car.

I’d say reject it too. You don’t need the hassle.

If it went into a main dealer and i presume you asked them to check it carefully having just purchased it why the hell did they not find these faults? I would be on to them also. |
