never never again!

So decided to tackle the rear end and all the surface rust to try and prevent it getting too bad. I think this RR may have seen a couple of boat launches at some point as there is a fair bit of surface rust. So got the wire brushes out and spent several hours getting the worst of the flaky stuff off. In my wisdom I thought I would go with POR-15 to paint over the rusty bits. What a fcking horrible nightmare of a job. 2 hours under the car trying to get into all the nooks and crannys. My hair is full of Por-15 and the postman was Censored himself as its all over my face as well. (and takes two weeks to come off apparently).

POR-15 might be good stuff but not to try and apply under the car. Coating a rusty part on your workbench maybe. But not what i'm trying to do with it.

Worst bit is I have done one coat and in 2 hours i'm back out there for the second one... Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry L322 2007 TDV8 3.6

I hate por-15. Everyone says it's good but when I used it I just found it to be too hard to use and very sensitive to what it goes over. And yes it's hard to get off skin!!

I used Por 15 on my disco a few years ago, would never use it again, it is sensitive to what it is painted on (apart from skin which it really sticks to!). I used Hammarite all the time now, cheaper and seems just as good at keeping the rust away. L322 4,4 TDV8

In my experience POR15 sticks really well to surface rust but just comes off in sheets if applied to sound metal.... go figure.... Bish.

I used POR15 on my rusted area hidden by the sill [ normal place where it lurks]. You must use a degreaser/cleaner, then a metal etcher then the POR15. I did two coats and put fiberglass coated with POR15 in the rust-out areas. It worked very well to protect the jacking sites. I also used it to protect the compressed air tank. I am getting ready to protect the rear suspension bits. You need a hazmat suit almost. It is brutal if you get it on your skin Censored

Yes this is what they say, if you want to apply to a smooth surface it needs to be "keyed" with some sandpaper. It likes a rough surface to grip hold of. Hence why it likes rust...! L322 2007 TDV8 3.6
