Apologies for very late response to this but I had same issue with 2014 with < 15k miles on it late last year. Apparently the hinges were worn and weren't covered by the warranty. The dealer I bought mine from eventually agreed to cover it. How'd you get on? |

Good luck with it, but a technical bulletin will not mean it's covered by warranty. It's there to help the dealers and techs to solve common problems quicker without contacting them cheers Alex 2018 Skoda Kodiaq vRS 2009 Caterham Supersport Race car 2007 M5 Touring 2005 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged 2004 SL55 AMG |

I had a tailgate opening/closing problem as described above on my 2014 VSE and Hunters in Guildford adjusted it free of charge under my warranty a couple of weeks ago..... |

I had an absolute mare with getting this fixed. My local dealer said to me that it has been in an accident and that I would have to pay.

Did anyone get to the bottom of this? Was it an alignment problem or something fixable? |

There is a great video on you tube how to fix this problem - I would guess that the pin has come off under the lower flap - it’s a ten minute fix. |

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. My RR is in right now for lower tailgate issues (inconsistent opening and closing) and I've been told the same thing that the upper tailgate is out of alignment.

The upper tailgate is made of plastic. It goes out of alignment by itself! After a little over a year, mine did not soft close anymore. My dealer wouldn't bother... This thread details some adjusting procedures, if you are tempted to do it yourself:
