The main beam on my L405 is nowhere near as good as my old L322 and I have noticed a few have fitted light bars behind the grill. Do they really help and if so what model do others use. Geoff

here's a thought, why not wire up the fogs to the mains for extra illumination....i suspect the beam angle will have to be adjusted upwards.. ... - .- -.

I got stopped by the police a year ago for having fog lights on when it was a clear night! They told me it was an offence to have fog lights on when not warranted! All LR cars from 1984

You must not use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226 of the Highway Code) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

Also contrary to Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations.  John

Beware that many of the cheap LED lamp bars have almost zero beam focus & just blast the light in all directions.
Great for slow speed off-road driving. Absolutely useless for supplementing main beam lighting as there's no "range" . Paul,

I didn't think there was anything wrong with using fog lights switched to come on with main beam only as Stan has suggested.They then become supplementary main beam headlights which comply with the Roads Vehicle Lighting Regulations. In fact when you have main beam headlights on you can have as many lights on the front in any position you like, they are all supplementary main beam headlights, I think the only stipulations are that they must be E marked and in pairs.

Interesting, back in the day I had a couple of high powered Cibie spotlights that came on with main beam but I think the might look a bit out of place on the front of a Range Rover.  Geoff

My light bar worked a treat Geoff but it wasn't a cheap Chinese thing!

I removed it when I facelifted mine as the LED headlamps are more than sufficient... I believe I landed up putting the bar on my van!

I’ve been looking at the Lazer range and actually getting to work with the Drexel and incorporating them into the grill rather than setting them behind. The Lazer stuff is pretty expensive so if you’ve got a less expensive option I’d be interested. I was actually thinking two units one each side, the reason I favour the Lazer is that they are actually spotlights and it takes me back to my rallying youth - happy days  Geoff
