Boot accessory socket - ignition only?

Hi All,

I was away camping / 4wd'ing over the weekend and found out my camper trailer battery had failed. No problems, I'll connect my portable fridge to the "always on 12v accessory socket in the boot" (according to the owners manual).

Imagine my surprise the next morning to find that the socket loses power with the ignition Surprised

I believe this socket is supposed to be always on? Can others confirm this please?

For reference, this is a 2010 L322 5.0sc Autobiography.

I've already had to 'repair' the rear trailer wiring after a previous owner had hacked it up, so I'm assuming they've done something with 12v socket also Sad

Thanks!

Well that's pretty sucky if true, I specifically looked in the owners manual before using it and ensured it said 'permanently live' - bit of a discrepancy then between the owners manual and reality Sad

It’s definitely true mate. I had a 2003 TD6 and they were always on. Got a 2011 TDV8 and then a pretty expensive 12v cooler box..... and it just kept powering off.

I did a bit of research to find that the later facelift cars power the sockets down.

I’m not sure if you can do something in the fuse box to keep them on....

Could be in the thread linked to above.

Here was my discussion thread at the time, also showing the manual to be incorrect....

Is there a way to re position a fuse so it can be changed to permanent?
I have a golf & moved a fuse so it swapped to permanently live.
pic is the VW way, wonder if it’s possible on RR??

On another forum, someone suggested "You can replace the relay with a short jumper lead fitted with spade terminals to make it permanently powered" which is an interesting idea - now just need to find the relay Surprised
