Drivers door won't latch

Hi all,

So the kids were using the car in a game of hide n' seek yesterday. Subsequently I noticed that the drivers door won't latch shut, just bounces open.

There also seems to be not the usual resistance or tension on either the interior or exterior handles.

Does this sound like a cable has snapped, or more likely the latch?

Thanks! 2004 Vogue TD6 - Remapped Smile

Might sound daft, but have you checked the seatbelt isn't blocking the door? (That's my favourite trick!)

Second daft suggestion - have you made sure the latch is 'open'?

And my third suggestion... have you messed around with the door catch mechanism (on the door) with a screwdriver pretending to be the latch bar... you can use the screwdriver to trigger the latch, handle to open the latch. It might be a little seized and need lubricating / manipulating so it springs into the closed position fast enough to grab the bar.

I've had this a few times especially on cold morning when the latch frozes open. I just hold the door fully shut and lock the door with the key. That will force the lock shut, then when you unlock the car the door will be snecked shut.

If that fixes it it's worth spraying the latch with WD40 or whatever to displace any moisture in the latch and keep it lubricated on cold mornings.

Hope that is of some help Thumbs Up 2011 RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8
