Only my opinion but considering the overall running costs of Range rovers and the potential size of engine replacements, I think it is madness to try and save a few quid on lubricants of any kind

I haven't used Westway, but I've been using Smith and Allan for years in a variety of vehicles. If it meets the technical specification required by the vehicle manufacturer, it meets the specification.

Marque makes no difference, be it a Land Rover or Skoda. Let's face it, our engines come from Ford, our gearboxes come from ZF, our transfer boxes come from Magna Steyr.

Some people feel more comfortable paying a premium because it has a big name brand on the bottle and that's fine as that's right for them.

S&A C1 is cheaper at £43.04 + VAT per 20 litres.

I recently mentioned about it in this thread...

KNWatkins,

thanks for this i was just about to spend out on GB oil from ZF and i think i am going to get it from Smith & Allen. i sent an enquiry off to them and just waiting for a response.
they use Shell additives too in there engine oil and i can get 20L for less than i pay for 10L of the Comma oil i have been using.

So if there response is good they will be my go to choice.

Oil service kit including filter with ZF oil 10L is £249

20L of oil made to the same grade and certification from S&A is £75 + £65.94 for filter kit so total of £140.94 that is a massive saving. Thumbs Up 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

No problem. I hope it helps.

Concerning gearbox oil, I use Mannol AG60 which is cheaper when bought direct from Germany....

Hi knwatkins
Yes I think I to would try your suggestion of Smith & Allen brand with the information on the company you have given if i were to go outside of the big name brands to use as a 6 month oil change as when I popped a couple of questions to the seller of the Westway oil first asking who makes there oil and the answer was (WE DO) and I then said that there web site says they are a distributer not a manufacturer and the reply was (OK).
I actually need more than 3 two letter words to give me the confidence of putting a new product in my expensive engine.
