Neither of them are as “pretty” though. I know very subjective. And build quality and experience doesn’t come close, as it shouldnt for nearly half the price. |

Yes it did, heres 50Kw and above chargers excluding Tesla......

I’m speaking from real life experience of colleagues who try and use electric cars as their main car and for work. The only one who can do that without immense frustration has a Model 3 Performance.

Don’t believe the Tesla hype. Rapid chargers are plentiful, as AJGalaxy2012 demonstrates - Zap map sometimes doesn’t show the chargers until you zoom into an area!! In nearly 2 1/2 years of driving, I’ve only needed to rapid charge about half a dozen times. Most charging is done at home or at your destination.

As I said, it depends on how much you use the car. I regularly do 300+ mile trips and I know (for a fact, as I work with people who need to do the same with an electric car) that an iPace / EQC / whatever would drive me mad. If you can manage with home and destination charging most of the time, then it makes much more sense, but there still isn’t an electric car that appeals to me yet range/charging aside.

Guys you keep saying they are plentiful but that just isn’t true. You seem to ignore the map that I provided that clearly highlights that 100Kw chargers aren’t plentiful. And even those will still take 45 minutes for an iPace to get from 20 to 80 full.

The initial purchase is more expensive but then you reap the savings by the bucket load, road tax, fuel, servicing. My fuel bill for Range Rover was over £2500, the same use and mileage on my i3 less than £100, Road Tax £0, Insurance half the Range Rover cost, servicing £220 every 2 years. Obviously I'm not talking I-Pace here only my i3 but for me the transition from L322 to i3 has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience. I know you are doing....but you can't compare running costs on a small hatchback like an i3 to a Range Rover.

I often wonder if and when a significant number of us change to electric whether it will all be as rosy. The tax take from fuel and VED is significant so I don't expect the zero rates of VED, for example, to continue forever. Lots of people got into rooftop solar panels but the rules changed because the scheme was initially very generous. They change regularly with cars ard will change again. I was involved in the Congestion Charging (green tax) but when it was successful in reducing the number of cars going into Central London - did they celebrate that fact or were they more concerned that a revenue stream was reduced - it was the latter and they put the price up.

Exactly. It won't take long before things change to recoup the loss in tax revenue, isn't fuel tax just over 50% of the cost per litre? That alone is a huge amount of money, so anyone with an electric car should enjoy the savings now as it won't last. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

All very true but what makes you think they wont simply up the fuel tax? One thing for sure, they wont tax it anything like diesel or petrol. I do expect road charging (as in price not battery charging) to come in like the French motorways where you pay a fee to use the road, no vehicle will escape that. Even in electricity was priced equivalent to diesel or petrol, the EV would still win on efficiency and performance. BMW i3 Electric Car
