United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Bournville

Was taking a look at electric cars on autotrader yesterday, there are 806 new or pre registered I-pace's listed Shocked that seems like a lot of vehicles but should mean there are deals to be done. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

I had the privilege of having a model X whilst working in the USA for 3 months, in that time I did some lengthy journeys. In the USA Tesla really do have the charging infrastructure well sorted for sure. The Model X is a phenomenal car in every respect. BMW i3 Electric Car

The performance is not that mind blowing either, the sales were bigging it up but I guess it is whatever someone is already used to.

The premium for it, and the lack of access to fast chargers is what made me see my senses. I think there were only two fast charging stations for it. I was also looking at how to drive it to the Netherlands, and Tesla got superchargers at the Eurotunnel business class lounge, with the iPace you'd have to wait at the motorway services with a slow charger.

If all one does is go around the house then fine, but then it is stupidly expensive for what you get. LOL And so I ended up with a second hand FFRR 5.0SC instead for 1/8th of the cost. I can buy a lot of fuel for that Laughing

Where did you get "45k car" from?
And if you thought the performance was a bit off then maybe you're comparing it with something other than a FF. Tesla Model S Performance perhaps. The 5.0 supercharged Fattie doesn't really come close in day to day driving.
And "only two fast charging stations"? "lack of access to fast chargers"...? Maybe not where you live; but there are plenty of public rapids in the UK. I've never had a problem. There are around 9,500 DC rapids in the UK with 1400 of those at 100Kw or more. Tesla: 600.

Ah well. Good job we don't all like the same things. Enjoy the 5.0. Graham

All very interesting reading chaps, thank you. I do very very little miles, less than 4000 a year I reckon. On the odd occasion I may well do a few hundred in one hit, but obviously since lockdown no holidays so no need to go to Southampton from Brum. Running around use wifes car etc.

Tesla infrastructure is way better than anything else, but I just don't like 'em.

A1GSS, why would you only but EV from now on?

Southampton to Brum return you could do easily with a single top-up charge part way home. If you can plug in whilst you're at Brum then no problems at all.

Because I like the combo of instant torque, no noise, no roughness, a full tank every morning, a warm (or chilled) car whenever I need to use it.

For me the drawbacks cited by others (especially by non-EV drivers) eg lack of range simply don't exist. Graham

If you don’t have off street parking an EV is a non starter, literally, if you come home with zero power reserve and therefore nowhere to plug in.

Where did you get "45k car" from?

Comparison in size, quality and performance of what you can get for other mid-sized SUVs. As I already highlighted; such as Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC, BMW X3, etc.

Nope, at the time I was in a Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and also had a VW Golf R (slightly tweaked) so two cars that are sub 4.5s. The iPace is decent, but did not wow me. A Tesla Model S Ludicrous mode definitely wow'd me, but the iPace doesn't come close to that. It is a very similar feel to other fast medium sized SUVs.

Hmmm really 1,400 100KW chargers compatible with the iPace? Well I stand corrected in the summer of 2019 there were definitely only 2. I just looked, and granted there are a fair few more CCS 100KW upwards now, but let's be real there are nowhere near to 1400.

Naturally the next bit you already know as you have got one. So on a 100Kw charger it still takes 45minutes to get from 20% to 80% full. But has Jaguar sorted the charging issues yet, as when I was looking even when you found a fast charger it was not even close to actually using the full 100KW.

You seem to be reading something else, or are lacking some comprehension. I do like it, just don't think its value for money, and the charging infrastructure and capabilities aren't great unless one drives mainly around the house. I expressed all that earlier as well, even with an additional qualification of trying to drive it to the Netherlands Wink

But granted now there are more faster chargers it is possible to get to Amsterdam without too much delay. Still annoying though that one has to be waiting out on a motorway services whilst that time would be better spent at the Eurotunnel flexi plus lounge. So 'only' adds an extra 1.5 hours to the journey compared to a (thirsty) ICE car.

I was impressed by the one my best friend and his family have. But total non starter for me as a main car. Having the need to tow a 2t caravan rules it out.

How that will work come 2030 when we can’t buy new effective tow cars or I’m not sure. There will be plenty of demand to keep the existing stock on the road from those who have caravans or need to tow trailers and horse boxes about the countryside.

As a second car it would however suit the Bill nicely. Or maybe they should be the other way round..... I can’t see myself buying electric as the main car for at least another 10 years, I am however toying with the idea of swapping SWMBO into an EV in the next 2-3 years. Not a Jag tho, possibly a Kia or VW. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Jeez, look at that charger map when you get up north.

No good for me at the moment I’m afraid, I’ll stick with the fattie for 500 miles in a day journeys.

You need to look at the full map, not the subset shown.

The map I shown was filtered in rapid chargers. The rest is just the slow ones, no good for a long a journey unless you fancy a seven course Michelin star dinner Wink

Doesn’t that map include all the slow chargers and even ones on private drives (if they’ve offered it for use), which are close to useless as anything other than destination chargers? MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Yep, was looking at it earlier out of interest.

The overall map shows all chargers including those in the charge on someone else’s drive if they are signed up for the scheme.

There did seem to be quite a few 50kw chargers about and quite a few close to me. Couldn’t see any 100kw+ chargers tho near me. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yup it does. Hence my version earlier was filtered on chargers that are actually useful when out and about and doing a longer journey.

It’s definitely growing, as I mentioned previously there were only two in the UK when I put down a deposit. But still not a great situation nationwide.
