If you're doing the work yourself its a completely different proposition.

Mine's had ABS sensors, wheel bearing which also knackered the reluctor ring, front strut, caliper, heater resistor, bits of welding in 9 months of ownership, if I was paying someone for that I'd be in for more than it cost.

My advice to anyone looking at a 4k car, particularly a TD6 is its just a 2k car that's had a wash. In my view you're better going cheap and leaving some money in the bank, the only exception being engine or transmission which I'd walk away from, there's enjoyment of working on your own stuff and there's taking on a big job on your path that's going to commit you to fixing it more than driving it.

I think if mine ever needs to sit in the shop for more than a few days then its curtains but I'll happily do all the one or two day jobs and drive something else while its in bits so its not rushing me.

I'd also steer away from TDV8 for that reason, the cheap ones appear to be more of a time-bomb for turbos particularly if they're being punted because its showing signs.

That Sports a nice looking thing BTW, for a Sport Wink

Thanks for your input Ian,

I’m still searching for the right car, at the moment I’m coming across a lot of 200k+ mileage cars for around £2000. This mileage doesn’t bother me but I think I’ll struggle to get rid in the future.
Most around £4K are lower mileage but often have rust, haven’t had a gearbox rebuild, generally a but tatty.

I’ve seen a few nice ones for around £5k, so I think this maybe my target group now.
I’ve got my eye on a Top spec Vogue SE

I do like the look of the fatty, but how can you say the sport is not as nice.

Pleasure mate.

That 200k car will be leaving you in boxes right? The good thing about that end of the market is you can't fall much further regardless of what happens.

I'm only teasing about the Sport, I think the HST on 22s is a nice looking thing. I actually looked at a few L320 but I'm also glad I went for the big boy, no regrets Very Happy

At the end of the day, styling is a personal and subjective thing. Personally, I prefer the look of the L320 over the L322 but the L405 over the L494. That's why I had a L320 first and now the L405.

Good luck in your search Thumbs Up Kev

I’m a secret chav, i like to modify my cars subtly though.
I like big wheels and black windows Rolling with laughter

I’ve just found FFRR black overfinch, now this is a bit of me, is it worth £8.5k

Belgium 2002 Range Rover HSE Td6 Oslo Blue

Is this just in Belgium or are the first generation sports easier and more reliable? Bought an early L322 but you just dont see them on the road anymore but there are still loads of early sports on the road and even used they are a lot more expensive?

Seems strange to me but I guess its just the market demand? Guess that makes sense because you dont see that many new FFRR's but the sports seem to be everywhere!

I don’t think either is more reliable than the other.

eBay is plagued with v6 sports with blown engines.

Similar to FFRR with gearbox issues.

I do agree though, a lot more early sports on the road.

September 2008 so what is a regular 58 plate TDV8 doing? Also is a 4.4 TDV8 not a slightly wiser buy considering they're reputedly more reliable and thus less likely to lose a load of money. You'd be in for more money but 8.5 is between the stools for me - not cheap enough that you can fix it on the cheap or sell it broken but not expensive enough that its the better engine.
