I also use a CTEK, I assumed it was just the main battery as aren't the terminals under the bonnet the jump start point aswell , however, saying that, I assume the auxiliary battery is charged via either the alternator or via the main battery when the car is running? I would also be interested to know now |

I would expect so, but not sure - will need to get a meter on them to test it out someday

The reason I ask is because my car is sometimes not used for long periods and is kept on a CTEK charger connected under the bonnet. Whenever I use the car after an extended period of it not having moved, the tailgate will not close either with the button on it or with the key fob. I just get a beeping sound and I have to close it manually. After the car has had a good run it then works perfectly. Therefore I was wondering if this was caused by the auxiliary battery running down because it wasn't being charged by the CTEK and was only charged when the engine was running. |

I connect my CTEK directly to the battery under the spare wheel. I have fitted a CTEK extension lead to save having to move the spare wheel each time. I have also connected a small solar charger to the same battery when leaving the car for several weeks. No problems whatsoever with either charger. MY23 D350 HSE

Bearing in mind that the aux battery is connected under the control of the battery monitor, I doubt it. The only way to be sure is to check the voltage across both batteries with your CTEK charger connected.

It’s something like this, but this is probably better than mine. I connect it in the boot and drop it on the rear parcel shelf near a side window. Works fine even if your windows are tinted.

Why oh why don’t they offer one built into the sunroof to permanently float the battery whenever sunlight is available.

I know this is an old thread but it asks the questions I have. In the manual it only talks of one battery (not two) so that’s my first question do all L405s have two batteries if so where’s the second. As I’m not using it much when I go to start it I get the “low battery -start engine” message. It always starts no problem but as a precaution I would like to connect my c-tek. I’ve always done this using the adapter I got from this site via the towing electric but as the towbar won’t deploy (another story) I need to connect differently - can I just use the jump start connection points under the bonnet.? Thanks for this - this weekend just gone was the first time I got the Battery Low - Start Engine message. I've put this down to the particularly cold weather of late.
