Satnav / main display dead?

Hi all,
Edit: Car is a 2007 Vogue tdv8
My satnav / infotainment unit is acting up. For a while, it would occationally flicker and shut down, only to come back on little later. Now it's only showing the green oval constantly and doesn't respond to any knobs or switches. It's probably the head unit itself that's gone bad, but I would hate to get a replacement, only to find that the error lies elsewhere.

Has anyone had a similar problem and figured it out?

Cheers!
Henrik

Wow, thanks! That's exactly the sort of information I was looking for. I'll give it a try and let you know.

No, that didn't work. The same fiberoptic loop passes through a second module further down. Could this be at fault, and is this also something that can be disabled without affecting something important? This is possibly the TMC module mentioned in the wiki-thread. What's it for?

Cheers!

Bypassing the bt module didn't work. Bypassing the TMC module didn't work. I then tried to join the two optical fibers coming from further down (TV? ). Bingo! Works perfectly now. No TV, but I have never even tried it, so won't miss it.

Cheers!

I don't know about the blank display but I had a flickering issue on my '09 L322. Everything on the display worked except no navigation.

In my case the issue was the navigation drive itself! I found a used on on eBay for $65 (USD). Plugged it in and no more flickering!

If you know anyone in your area with a compatible DVD drive, maybe you can try swapping drives to see if that fixes it. It's just 4 screws and 3 plugs to remove it.

Good luck!

Thanks, but all works now, except the TV which I never used anyway. I'll leave it alone for now.
