Just adding up grey, white, black and silver accounts for 7 in 10 new cars registered.

Take away blue and only just over 1 in 10 cars registered are in colour - and 85% of those are red.

It would seem that one represents the cars registered during 2020 and the others represents the total cars registered and on the road in March 2020, so they would be different.

It does show us a trend though, with the unstoppable March of grey. Don’t get me wrong, grey can look good on some cars, but why so many?!

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Orkney Grey

I have always liked Grey as a colour for cars for most of my life. So much so that when I got my first brand new car back in September 2006, a Mondeo ST220, it had to be Grey. Was very lucky to pick this one up and absolutely loved the colour, Sea Grey Metallic. It was a very rare car as well, as 95% of all Mondeos were Performance Blue. Still have the ST220 to this day, though SWMBO now uses it as I have got my Orkney Grey 4.4TDV8 Westminster.
Pics of the Mondeo on the first day of ownership...almost 14 years ago!!

Have got the FF as my avatar.

I had a grey Defender back in the 90s and when I bought some second hand green doors the insides had only ever been primed, not top coated, and were an exact match for my grey top coat so I am sure you may be correct, certainly in Land Rover's case. 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone
2005 4.4V8 (M62) Bonatti Grey/ Parchment interior - gone
1998 4.6HSE Blue/ Cream interior (can't remember exact colours) - gone
1977 White - gone (should have kept)

We have the opposite ends of the scale, my Range Rover is grey but the better half's Disco Sport is bright orange. She loves it because it's different, and I love mine blending in as I can be nosey at the local goings on without being noticed (that much). - Corris Grey 2017 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8

grey doesn't look that dirty as most other colors, if the car is out of reach of sponge and bucket.
Black is always dirty, like dark blue. As I said before BRG (boring rover grey) is the best color for the lazy ones

Just watching the Wheeler Dealers episode with the Mk3 Range Rover, the one with the Black and Blue paint job that they changed to white...Would have looked better in grey, but white was a rare colour at the time.
