Hi all

Decided that I'd do a service on the range being a 2003 4.4 v8, oil changed no issue, air and pollen filte changed no issue however doing the spark plugs, all 8 spark plugs would appear too all have oil all over them as you can see in the picture below. I know this ain't a good thing. Is this a case of changing the rocker and a spark plug seals or this something a bit more heavy then that.

Just replace your cam cover seals pretty standard issue on these engines and you should be good.

Flipping wish I had the gaskets already as doing tee spark plugs I was pretty much 3/4 the way there with it.

Sounds easy enough tho so best order one and get it done same day I do the alternator I guess

Yeah order some up island 4x4 are good you need left and right side the kits usually come with outer and inner gaskets.
Some kits on the bay come with everything you need including new oil seals for the cam cover bolts.
Oh and some sealant for the bit at the back on the engine and remove the heavy cover 1st loads more room if you do

Already done mate. Ordered it all from island 4x4 as I need the alternator O ring as well. Looked it up and it seems easy enough to change.

One thing I did think of was the oil that was in spark plug well would have fallen into the cylinder. This will just burn off and throw out some blue smoke for a while won't it. No serious damage to worry about right

Will be getting new gaskets after the alternator is done

Don't forget the bolt/nut rubber seals as well mate. I made the mistake order the gaskets but forgot the bolt and nut rubber seals so held me up a day

Think that's the ones mate. I ordered mine from land rover as seals, gaskets I always go genuine. These two in the circle mate

May I suggest you had bead blasted and powder coated the covers while you are at it? It's well worth it. And since you changed the spark plugs, funds permitting, I'd also change the ignition coils...

Can I ask why you'd suggest going down that route for the cam covers please?

Cosmetically mines pretty rough but it's 17 years old and gets used as a proper work horse so the body work won't ever win any competitions so never really bothered with the engine bay tbh

Mainly cosmetic reasons. One could also argue that the gasket channels would provide better sealing if treated. I had mine done for a modest sum, can't remember exactly so I'm confident it won't break the bank. Just make sure not to powder coat the inside.
