Morning All,

Recently purchased a GAP IID from another member and have been playing with it a bit to learn all the functions etc.
My question for the more tech minded of you than me, When in the ECU menu it tells me a number of updates are available
is this something I can do myself with the tool or is it main dealer only and are there any benefits to these or should I just
leave well alone ?

All modules except the PCM can be updated using the tool. Gap charge a fee for each module update, the list erroneously shows a couple of modules as not being up to date and the general advice seems to be to not update a module unless there is a good reason to do so. Excepting for the cost I would have updated all back-level modules but only updated ones where I hoped for an improvement in operation.

I'm a dinosaur and take the view that if it isn't broke then don't fix it.
If you have a specific problem then go for it but I certainly wouldn't do it just because you can, I suspect that if you did every update available and assuming it worked without screwing something up, you wouldn't notice any difference to your car.
I would like to be wrong on this but I doubt that we are missing out on anything not having all of the latest updates.

cass, I agree with you. But why do they make updates available? Must be to cure a hiccup or two somehow.

My guess is (and this is only a guess) that an update MAY fix some issue on some models under certain circumstances or in certain countries.
Someone more cynical than me, if that's possible might suggest that they are just an excuse for dealers to charge some huge amount of money to "cure" problems that should never have been there in the first place.

No I have no issues with the car at all so would only be doing it because there is an update available. Think I'll just leave
well alone and save the money.
