Starting issue - Doesn't turn over - Time/Date resets

Hi all,

Well after passing its MOT last week my 2010 TDV8 3.6 has twice done the following when starting.

1) Keyfob in cupholder
2) Foot on Brake Pedal
3) Press the Starter button
4) Instrument panel illuminates - all good so far ....
5) Instrument panel goes blank - nothing, Fatty does even try to turn over
6) Lots of bings and bongs and then the instrument panel comes back but the date and time are reset to when it left the factory
7) If I press the starter again it will sometimes just fire up no problem. Other times, I have to keep pressing a combination of the brake peddle switch/starter button to get to fire up.

Very, very odd.

It had a new battery 2 months ago - which has been in trickle charge via my Ctek since
New batteries in both Keyfobs on Sunday - It did it before these were changed though.
The alarm did go off in the middle of the night during a very cold night 2 weeks ago to.

I've searched and can see members mentioning the brake peddle switch/ new battery/ Starter Motor is the issue. But no one mentions the date/time being reset.

Has anyone experienced this ? I will put my IID tool on it tomorrow, but if anyone has experienced this issue I'd be grateful for any pointers. Gavin

The negative is tight but he positive just slides over the terminal and does'nt have a bolt to 'crimp' it onto the terminal... is that normal ? It moves a little..... I cant see anywhere a bolt would go .... Gavin

Definitely not normal. Looks like the source of your problems. There should be a bolt to tighten it. You may need to change the clamp if you have no means of tightening it. John

Yes, I had a look in there as I used it when I changed the battery in the Autumn. The only picture I could find was in the TDV8 4.4 section and that looks completely different to my positive terminal. https://www.fullfatrr.com/gallery/albums/u...G_1235.JPG

I can see the bolt on the positive terminal there.. but this is mine ... It just slides over and there is nowhere for a bolt to tighten it up onto the clamp. The hole next to the clamp is just that, a hole.

Even if it did have a thread in it I cannot see how this would help to tighten the clamp down onto the terminal ?

Do I have a rouge terminal clamp Shocked

There should be a bolt through that hole which serves to tighten the clamp. Can you see down the side of the battery to see if by chance the bolt has come loose and dropped into the battery compartment?

It isn't a rogue terminal clamp. It is the standard one for the L322. Although it is rouge. Wink John

A jubilee clip or similar might serve as a temporary repair.... .

AHA! I see what you mean. The person who fitted the battery before me must've lost it, as that small 'clamp' isn't anywhere to be seen. I'll see if something similar is available on-line or raid my stores to see if anything turns up that can squeeze those bits around the terminal.

Many thanks Thumbs Up

Just thought I'd update the thread and its all good news.

After securing the positive lead as it should be, the car hasn't moved since January 2nd and today it fired up on the button after being dormant for all that time Thumbs Up Gavin
