Possible new owner of 2005 Supercharged FFRR

Well, as the title suggests, I am looking at starting the purchase of a 2005 FFRR supercharged and was there anything I should be aware of other than the obvious mpg issue, where I am expecting about 17mpg??

Forgot to say that I usually reside on the Defender site as I have a 110XS. I hope I am making the right decision in getting one. I was also looking at an 06 plate Land Cruiser VX Amazon, but something about the RR called to my heart. Have I done the right thing and what should I be aware of with the supercharged one? Are there any know problems with this model and also the model year?

It's all good as far as you are concerned, the Supercharged models are awesome. I came from a Supercharged Sport to possibly the slowest diesel FFRR, and even took a few FFRR SC's on test drive. Was quite surprised at how light the front end feels compared to the diesel.

The noise of the Supercharger is like driving a fighterbomber, its superb, and amazingly addictive. I think the only thing to point out is that you may struggle to get 17mpg, I would say 14-15mpg is more realistic. Don't forget this car weighs in at 2.7 tonnes and is not very aerodynamic. (like your 110!)

If you ever think about swapping it to LPG there is a good sticky thread in the Maintenance section. here's a link to it:

don't know what I'm doing right, but I have it in sport mode most of the time even on the motorway with the cruise on too.

have the kids in the back at the weekends so tend to take it easy around town, but don't tend to drive like miss daisy

standard 20mile commute each way with mix of motorway and town and average is always between 17.1 and 17.3 mpg.

i too live in central scotland, so we probably drive on the same roads.

If you get better MPG from Sport Mode, are LR missing a marketing trick here. In these days of high fuel prices and environmentalism, they should just relabel Sport mode as "Super Eco Mode" and normal mode as "Eco mode! Very Happy

Good luck with the hunt for you new FFRR Landy Nut. Don't worry about fuel consumption, just drive it a little less! Cut out the non-essential journeys to compensate, but you'll enjoy the miles you do much more.

Sorry chums i was Censored last night when i typed this and lapsed into Scottish humour at Mick and his sport mode. For our cousins south of the border a trackie is a colloq, colloquialism...slang for a track suit and the only sporty thing we do in it up here is run from the Police!

Well, I had just popped back along the say a big thank you to everyone who posted to help with with my decision, but I have to say that I was a little bit disappointed with the last 2 comments. I happen to have been extremely busy with both big problems at work, not to mention quite a few personal things going on and a lot of things have gone by the wayside over the last couple of weeks, so I did not appreciate the unnecessary comment.

As it turns out, the FFRR supercharged had a holding deposit put on it just before I was able to view it, so I was a bit gutted and the long trip to view it would have been a big waste on a "just in case" basis. As it turns out, it was sold a few hours later. In the end, I went with a lovely Land Cruiser Amazon VX 4.2 and am pleased with it. I'm not quite sure what I should be "embarassed" about though.

If things dont work out with this one, I will probably be going for a FFRR as there is nothing else out there that does it for me other than the one I have, so I may be around sometime in the near future.

Landy Nut, our comments are only EVER made in jest, nothing is ever meant by it. If you were a more regular reader/poster you'd know we are a very friendly (yet still small) bunch of owners.

If we helped in any way, we've done our job. Look on it as that car was not meant to be, but maybe one soon will be.

Feel free to stick around and read up more in preparation for when you DO get your Supercharged! Discovery 4 HSE

Only said in jest - didnt mean to offend you - if you read our past posts nobody has upset anyone and i wouldnt want to be the first!!!! Land cruisers do everything well and i am sure you will like it. In my view the RR is the daddy though - Happy driving and please come back to us.
