Land Cruisers are about as useful as a One Legged Guy at an Arse Kicking Contest...........[/quote]
It is very disappointing to read comments and provocative statements like this and to honest, I really cant be bothered to reply.
RRUK - thank you and perhaps I will return here another day with a Supercharged FFRR, but for now I am happy with my decision. I will be hanging around here and picking up on things as time goes on, in preparation for the day when I fancy a change.
I have to agree on your earlier comment on the supercharger whine though - it really is an addictive sound. I am on very very good terms with my Land Rover Dealership and they always let me take any car I fancy whilst mine is in for service, warranty etc and as I live quite a distance away, I usually end up with it for a good few days (9 for the last service etc!!!) and give it a good test drive. On the time before last, I had a supercharged FFRR and I have to say it was a wonderful experience - I was driving along with the window open in the rain just to hear that wonderful tune as it built up.
I had the RRS last time because I fancied trying something different, but it really did not cut it with me. There was just nothing special about it and the ambiance of the cabin was completely different. The steering was also not as clean and I missed the ARM system for the cornering. Luckily they let me borrow a TDV8 for the day when I got back as mine was not quite finished.
I had fancied a FFRR for a while, but I do a lot of shooting and other country pursuits and when I looked at the cost of a potential incident involving a large fence post or tree, I was astonished, so it made logical sense to get a Defender, as the skins for the panels can be bought for next to nothing and I have done so many wing changes on other people's vehicles, I can do it with my eyes shut.
I still do a lot of offroad driving, but I seemed to have avoided any damage to the Defender, so I thought why not change. I am quite lucky (due to about 700 acres of land!!!) that I get the opportunity do some fairly testing offroad driving, so I will be interested to see how my new Amazon does. I have given it a thorough testing in the dry and cross axled bits and various other daft things and it has not even needed to use the rear locking diff yet. It is very annoying that the centre diff locks automatically when you enter low box though!! If I get a FFRR next, I will be able to give an accurate comparison.
In the mean time, if you ever get an opportunity to pop over to the Isle of Wight, give me a PM and I will give you a chance to drive around and get some dirt on yours if you fancy and if it is your thing, you are more than welcome to have a few free days of shooting, depending on what is around at the time.
Best wishes
