Having had no operating AC for months I've finally had it checked by my local independent.
They think it's the compressor rather than the DPS valve - based on wanting to have a look at the compressor first.
They were iffy about being able to get a replacement DPS valve.
Does this ring true? I was under the impression that most of the compressor failures were just the DPS valve.

Final question... amount of time to swap the compressor - they're talking about having to drop subframe slightly to get at it?

I’m quietly researching this myself as I get a delay to cold in hot weather. Do I go valve or complete compressor?  Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Isn’t this quite a well known issue on late TDV8s? I nick-named it ‘Vario-Air’ on ours, not so funny in the Spanish summer...

Mine did this last year. Suspected culprit is the sensor on the compressor, not the actual compressor mechanicals. Just replace the compressor as it’s not worth the labour not too. By the time you’ve reached the sensor etc.

It’s the same issue on a lot of VAG products, as it’s the same part.

I’ve got my old compressor and will replace the sensor and have it as a potential backup for next time. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

I don't think my aircon is working at all - even on a long (over an hour) journey.
Tending to think the whole compressor might be shagged, not just the valve.

Can anyone tell me what are the symptomes when that valve goes? My aircon worked this summer on shorter journeys around town, but when I was driving on longer journeys, it would just start blowing normal not cold air, after switching car off and on, it proceeds with blowing cold.  RR HSE 4.4 2006 LPG

I had this problem.

My indy explained to me that the labour is the same to replace the valve as it is to replace the compressor. A replacement compressor comes with a 2 year warranty - the valve only 1.

There was only £300 in it (I think) so I went for the complete compressor). 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE
