Rear brake disk joy

I have just started the process of changing the rear disks and pads, never done this before, how difficult can it be, well, not entirely straight forward. First of all turning the Electric parking Brake off for maintenance, Having an 2009 facelift edition doesn't help my cause, nothing seems quite as straightforward as it should be. The fuse suggested to be removed to disable the system once turned off varies from fuse 8 to fuse 36, mine is fuse 9, it would have helped if the drawing of the fuse box behind the glove box (it is the right hand support that needs to be released contrary the suggestion in the manual) actually bore some resemblance to the sticker on the inside of the cover. Some searching revealed that is similar to the D4 2010 onwards layout, it has taken a bit of time but I now have the fuse box and numbering of the fuses in an Excel sheet, so tomorrow I can remove fuse number 9 and (hopefully) get on with things.
Just as a question, is there any reason I can't pull the fuse before starting the engine and put the gearbox in neutral so the EPB can't kick into action?
If any one wants the drawings just let me know
Regards
Will

Hi Will. It seems to me that the set up and maintenance of the handbrake system is over complicated. I know somebody will chime in and say I did mine wrong. I just left the handbrake off and treated mine like a normal manually operated system to change the shoes. I didn't do all the set that is meant to be done afterwards. I didn't remove any fuses. Perhaps I was lucky but the shoes don't bind and the handbrake works perfectly.

Thanks for your replies, the thing is that if I put the gearbox in Neutral and turn the engine off the EPB comes on automatically, there seem to be several ways to get the EPB into service mode but they all seem somewhat convoluted and it will be a trial and error event to find which one works on this particular car. My simple mind thought park car, remove fiuse no9, ignition on, box in N ignition off, problem solved. I guess I will have to start thinking complicated solutions to a simple problem. Neutral

I agree with kevinp

Mine is a 3.6 facelift and when I changed mine I just left it in park with the handbrake off same as Kevinp, mine does not automatically apply, I did go through the bedding in process though as I changed the handbrake shoe as well. 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone
