I took my test in my mums Mini Cooper, it was one of the relaunched ones from about 1990 ish.

Next question, how many times did folks have to take their test and with how many lessons.....??

Me, one time, 4 lessons.

SWMBO..... best not say really 🤔 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I learnt and passed first time in a D reg Ford fiesta (mk2)diesel . I had an A reg mk2 fiesta waiting for me once I'd passed. Think I had about 12 lessons. Lessons were £10 an hour then - 1996.

Lesson 1 on 17th birthday. 4 more and a test 6 weeks later. It was sleeting and the examiner called an emergency stop as I turned a corner, back went out, I caught it, stopped, cursed, slammed it into first and pulled off. Later in the test a district nurse (my own mother FFS!) walked out into the road from between cars, so on went the anchors again. More cursing and move off. Get to the end, fail. The reason? Not looking over my shoulder after each emergency stop. He actually complemented me on car control.

Had a couple more lessons and waited until better weather came along and passed without a problem. No theory test in those days, and a much wider choice of vehicles, so the day after I could have driven a 7.5 ton truck at 17 Shocked Shocked

Not even sure what the car was, I suspect it was the Renault Clio that I seem to recall my instructor had, though I remember he had the car written off around the time I passed, so it could have been in whatever replacement vehicle he had at the time - it was that memorable a vehicle Rolling with laughter

The car I drove straight after would have been my parents 1.8 TD Ford Mondeo, though I bought my first car not long after - a 1989 Mini "Racing Flame", basically a bog standard 998cc Mini Mayfair with some stickers on.

1200 quid for the car, 1800 quid for the insurance. Censored

I passed second go, failed the first time for failing to use my mirrors whilst reverse parking. Very quickly realised you have to move your head and not just your eyes in order to make sure the instructor knows you're looking Smile

One lesson. Second attempt. Failed first time for "lack of courtesy to pedestrians" Confused Took the first one in Paisley on a Saturday morning. Shocked

Second was in Motherwell. Got a cancellation.

Bike test was later. BSA 350 Police bike with Traffic Inspector following in a car as the tester. Also had other tests for authorisations. John

I can't remember how many lessons, probably about 6. I did pass first time, but probably more luck than skill.

I took my motorbike (on a Lambretta Embarassed) test in about 1966. The examiner just stood on the kerbside and told me to go around the block and he jumped out at me to do an emergency stop. I think he was bored, or about to retire as there was very little else examined. All I was interested in as a 16 y/o was grasping the pass certificate and going off to meet up with my mates Very Happy 2017 SDV8 Autobiography

1982 Merchant Navy steering ticket on my user name SS Lyria 315000 tonne Supertanker.
1984 Car test Datsun Sunny
1986 PSV Routemaster RML

Past them all 1st time. My car test was during a time of Examiners ‘work to rule’ and there was a big back log, but because I was in the Navy I was allowed to queue jump. So ended up having a couple of lessons a day for a week and took my test at the end of it. Luckily I passed Thumbs Up
