Hello Guys and Gals. It’s been a while since I was a forum member anywhere, let alone another LR forum. So I have a confession. I’ve always wanted one of these, and a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to buy a dead(ish) tdv8.
As far as I can tell it needs a pair of turbos, and some body tlc, but the rest of the car has much potential. Even came with a new set of tyres!

The plan is afoot, I want it back on the road for my wedding just before Christmas, so turbos have been bought from the local indi and it’s now on the ramp... I’ll do my best to keep you up to date on progress.

Consensus of opinion will probably come down on the first two....

Keep us posted on progress. i think if you have knowledge, skills, time & space it is a great move. there seem so many out there that require a few quid to be spent on them and they go for little money! it is also shocking given how expensive these cars were when new that lots of owners don't maintain them properly!!

Good luck with the car, but looking at the rust you can see I would check out the sills, jacking points & rear arches before spending too much on it. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

Brian, must have read my mind. Definitely remove both sill trims & rear bumper, as I suspect that quarter panel hole may be letting in water & guess where all the electrics are

Apart from that looks ok & if you can fix it, even better

Theres money in the pot for the body. I'm a fabricator by trade, so we'll see. A friend of mine has offered to help with the rusty bits, and the paint....

As you might imagine, I didn't pay alot for it.

1 owner, FSH, 100k miles... gotta be worth spending a little bit on. The D3 I had cost a fortune (8.5k) to own for the 40k miles I had it... This CAN't be that bad.

Is there a story behind the demise of the turbos and also, is there a story as to how you landed up with her.

Looks like a good project - I'm gonna go with Genius, but I reserve the right to change my mind once you've started working on it and uncovered everything else

So, it was owned from new by an employees dad. He changed it up for a new one and lent it to his son (brother of employee), son ran around in it for a few months before it apparently started over pressuring the manifolds and restricted performance etc. Local garage had it for three months trying different things, mafs, cleaning products, and then gave up on it. They reckoned it was turbos, and quoted 4.5k labour to fix. ( I’d bought the brothers D2 commercial some years prior, and it’s been a great work truck....) I’d actually given up on the idea of buying a RR, but was asked if I was interested.... funnily enough I’m more happy to buy a broken car than a ‘good ‘un. The sellers are more trustworthy I think. Anyway, it’s been sat in the yard until I could clear enough backlog and get it in the shed.

It arrived with me in limp mode but driving. I’ve done no further investigation work, just gut feeling that it’s a turbo, and as far as I’m concerned, if it’s getting one it’s getting both. As I said before, there’s money in the pot, as the car wasn’t much.

So egr delete bought, turbos bought, ecu out ready to send my friend who does remaps whilst it’s off the road....
it’ll be getting a pair of decat pipes whilst I’m at it, and a full stainless exhaust (that’s what I do) the turbos should breathe much better by the time I’m finished.

I spent an hour tonight getting some of the front off it.. need to find some rust convertor paint for the bits and pieces inside the engine bay, the inside wings bits, not bad at all, just worth doing while I’m in there.

Q: why do the rear door seals collect water? It falls out when I open the door..

Can either align the door seals by using the block of wood trapped in the top of the door trick or remember to step to one side when opening the door after rain. Welcome to the madhouse! Previous cars:

Spent a little time getting the front off over a couple of evenings... now trying to free the rad pack... Sooo, how much oil in your intercooler is too much?
