collapsed osf suspension

Very Happy
woke up with an interesting site this morning, the rangie has collapsed, jacked up and removed the leg n bag assy, dismantled it and found small rubber o rings of which one is broken and chewed plus 2 small white plastic rings, all the black orange large o rings on leg look ok.
found the split in the bag twas on the fold right at the bottom,
but bag has a lot of oil in it and looks like atf, hmm, no range rover expert but dont think that should be there, can push down on shocker and takes considereble force then returns,
question, can i just bag it or replace entire assy?

Sounds like the damper has been leaking - that's the only reasonable explanation for oil being in the bag.

I'd therefore replace the entire assembly. It's considered best practice to do both fronts at there same time, so that you have evenly matched dampers each side.

thank you for that reply,
on reflection it does seem correct to replace all, but just had to ask,
i didnt know if oil was supposed to be in there, a fairly easy job to do, lower big bolts were shown who the boss is!
ive come across the choy neeze struts on the bay'
do they work i herd they leak and dont seal correctly then found out bwi make just about everything car related and their chinese, in a bit of quandry on what to put in the car
i suppose cost is a factor , shes not in the first blooms of life.. or second..come to think of it not even third !

I've no experience of the Ebay ones myself, I went for the ones from Paddock Spares a few years back as they were best priced for what they state is 'OEM quality' at around £260 per side delivered. That was for my 2002 V8 L322, part numbers RNB000740 & RNB000750, which are for a petrol or diesel L322 upto VIN 6A9999999 (pre MY 2006 cars).

Advanced Factors also have front strut assemblies at £284, less at least 5% if using the forum discount code of AF4LRP - so should hopefully bring them down to around £270. Just done a quick check and these have a 2 year warranty versus the 1 year warranty offered on the Paddock supplied ones.

always good to get input from others,
i ve checked the other side and thats been replaced, phew!
i had a look at the ebay ones , then by accident found the very same copied ones being sold as spares as seen so to speek ,with no warrany either, by the sellers ( a number of as new been fitted but returned by customer...)
hmm looks like they are a bit iffy, saved me the bother of fitting them and hassle if they failed or didnt seal correctly.
old failed one is a delphi with a 2004 prod sticker on it and 121k miles
im hoping that when the new one gets fitted that it also helps the ride, by way of it always felt a little spongy and bouncy / a litte uneven , but i guess the load of oil in the air bag had a bit to do with that!
