Sounds like the damper has been leaking - that's the only reasonable explanation for oil being in the bag.

I've no experience of the Ebay ones myself, I went for the ones from Paddock Spares a few years back as they were best priced for what they state is 'OEM quality' at around £260 per side delivered. That was for my 2002 V8 L322, part numbers RNB000740 & RNB000750, which are for a petrol or diesel L322 upto VIN 6A9999999 (pre MY 2006 cars).
