RAVE no work

Hi all,
Since updating to windoze 2004,I have been unable to get into :RAVE: .

The problem seems to be loading the acrobat 4 so that Rave will work.

Has anyone found the same problem and found a work around to it.

TIA

Yep you're right, I suspect that the reason is that Adobe Reader 4 is no longer supported on windows 10 v2004.
I have tried running it with the compatibility tool without any success. If I get more time to have a look I will try and get it running but I think that will fail.

Hopefully someone will find a way of getting Rave to run using a newer version of Adobe Reader, that should be possible but will need someone with knowledge of Adobe Reader.
If I find the time I will have a go at doing that, if only because I like a challenge.

I have also checked my Rave for MG and that is now not working, so some more incentive for me to get it working, as I still have an MGTF that I regularly work on.

First things that spring to mind are an old laptop using an old operating system, or running a virtual machine, again, with an old operating system.

I don’t run RAVE as I have a 2011 car now. I have it on CD somewhere. The pdfs should be on the CD somewhere, but if I remember right, it might be a big data file.

Will have to do a bit of investigation next week.

I have just had another quick look...

I don't think this is going to be easy, Rave is very complex, which makes it so good, it uses many PDF files controlled via an executable Tdata.exe.
The PDF's cannot be opened with the latest version of Adobe reader, you get redirected to the Adobe website.

The easiest way is indeed an old laptop running anything from Vista forwards but not Windows 10 which will get updated to V2004 whether you like it or not (unless its permanently disconnected from the net).

A virtual machine is another way but its not for the faint hearted and needs IT skills to set it up and to maintain and may need reinstalling every time Windows updates.

If I cannot resolve this over winter (or someone else comes up with a solution) I will back out one of my laptops to Windows 7 and keep it in my workshop rather than disposing of it.

For the L322 there is a 2002 manual that is just a PDF and not based on Rave which I use for my car alongside the 2007-2010 manual.

Unfortunately for me there isn't one for my TF.

Hi Bigbo,

I gather that the pdf for the 2002 L322 would be suitable for the 2003 as well or not suitable, seeing as there werent any updates for the 2003.

As far as I know the 2002 manual covers all models from MY02 to MY05 and the My07 to MY10 manual covers the later models. Owners of MY06 have to use both manuals.

The non Rave manual is not in the Wiki but I would be happy to email you a copy if you wish.

I'm confused. Windows 2004? What is that?

I'm running Windows 10, fully updated with Office 2013 and Rave still works on my machine.

Dunc. The life you have is the only one you'll get; make the most of it.

2004 would have been Windows XP back then. A lot of older legacy software such as Rave cannot run on the newer operating systems such as Windows 7 onwards. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Hmm....as I saud, I have Win10 fully patched and it works fine on my desktop...and my laptop, also on Win 10.

If people are still running XP they need to update...and soon. It was never the most secure or stable version of Windows.

Ok, dug out my old RAVE CD and tried it.

I inserted the CD, created a folder called RAVE on the root of my drive C and copied the contents of the CD to it.... just using select all, copy then paste.

I then removed the CD.

Went into the RAVE folder on drive C and run the RAVE.exe application as administrator.

All working, no issues. As far as I know my Windows 10 is fully uptodate....

I don’t have any compatibility options selected...

You can see it fire up the version of adobe that’s in the same folder, the old one, version 4.

From the olden days, doesn’t the PC look in the folder first for the files required before looking elsewhere? Ie it didn’t use the installed adobe as there was one in the folder already......
